We are under way in Milan, as this eagerly awaited Lombardy derby gets up and running!
Hello and welcome to coverage of Inter's Serie A encounter with local rivals Atalanta at San Siro!
Italian champions Inter will tackle the toughest test of their Scudetto defence so far today, as they welcome the Bergamaschi to Milan for a Lombardy derby. Both sides won in midweek, to keep them in the mix at the sharp end of the Serie A standings.
A second-half comeback brought about by Matteo Darmian's 52nd-minute goal helped Inter turn the tide after a difficult first half against Fiorentina - with Edin Dzeko soon adding another before Ivan Perisic's late third in a 3-1 win. As a result, the Nerazzurri have now scored in 24 league matches in a row - matching a club record set over 70 years ago.
A typical trait of Atalanta's attacking approach, wing-backs Robin Gosens and Davide Zappacosta were both on target in the first half of their midweek fixture. Although Sassuolo pulled a goal back before the break and had chances to equalise, La Dea ultimately ran out 2-1 winners at the Gewiss Stadium.
INTER (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic; Stefan de Vrij, Alessandro Bastoni, Milan Skriniar; Matteo Darmian, Hakan Calhanoglu, Marcelo Brozovic, Nicolo Barella, Ivan Perisic; Lautaro Martínez, Edin Dzeko.
SUBS: Alex Cordaz, Danilo D'Ambrosio, Alexis Sanchez, Mattia Sangalli, Martín Satriano, Denzel Dumfries, Aleksandar Kolarov, Federico Dimarco, Roberto Gagliardini, Andrea Ranocchia, Matias Vecino, Ionut Radu.
SUBS: Marco Sportiello, Giuseppe Pezzella, Francesco Rossi, Roberto Piccoli, Berat Djimsiti, Aleksey Miranchuk, Josip Ilicic, Mario Pasalic, Matteo Lovato, Teun Koopmeiners, Joakim Maehle.
The teams are filing out onto the pitch at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza - we are moments away from kick-off!
ATALANTA (3-4-2-1): Juan Musso; Rafael Toloi, Jose Luis Palomino, Merih Demiral; Davide Zappacosta, Remo Freuler, Marten de Roon, Robin Gosens; Matteo Pessina, Ruslan Malinovskyi; Duvan Zapata.
Both sides must beware the back pocket of no-nonsense referee Maresca after the interval, as surely only a sending off could deprive us of another riveting 45 minutes of top class Calcio, in the early throes of the Scudetto race.
As a measure of the 90 minutes, the possession was shared virtually equally and the two sides each had at least 20 attempts on goal. Even the super-strict referee was particularly active; showing eight yellow cards in a well contested but fairly fought match.
After a superb Serie A clash, that's all from San Siro. Thank you for joining us and goodbye!
