At 27 years of age, USNMT stalwart and AC Milan ace, Christian Pulisic, is coming into his prime as a player.

The American has been at the forefront of the Rossoneri's renaissance under Maximiliano Allegri and, on the eve of the Supercoppa Italiana, will surely want to score the goals that help secure a second such title in succession for Milan.

Pulisic has blossomed at Milan

Last year, they defeated eternal rivals Internazionale in the final, with Pulisic scoring an 80th-minute equaliser to bring Milan level after being two down, setting the stage for Tammy Abraham to win it in stoppage time.

That goal was just one of many important interventions from a player who never really hit the heights whilst at Chelsea and looked to be drifting as a result.

Indeed, you could probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of US players generally who can claim to have been genuinely successful at the elite level on their European sojourns.

It's to Pulisic's great credit that he's not become another also-ran, but has taken his experience with the Blues and used that as a motivating factor in order to become one of Milan's major stars.

Impressive stats in 2025/26

Considering he's already missed five Serie A games in the 2025/26 season with a thigh injury, and certainly wasn't 100% fit in some other matches, his return of seven goals in 10 matches - just one behind leading Italian top-flight scorer Lautaro Martinez, who has played five games more - and two assists, is impressive.

One of those was the only goal of the game against Martinez's Inter just a few weeks ago, which ultimately set the tone for the remainder of the match, which Milan went on to win, due in no small part to Mike Maignan's heroics from the penalty spot.

Pulisic's current season output is even more impressive when placed in context with his previous two campaigns at San Siro.

In 2024/25, he scored 11 goals and provided nine assists in 34 league games, whilst in 2023/24, he managed 12 goals and eight assists in 36 matches.

He's therefore well on course to shatter those figures if he keeps scoring at the rate of knots he has this season, and lest we forget that he's also netted regularly in the various cup competitions.

A talismanic figure for the Rossoneri

A player who appears to rarely court the media or provide any sort of controversy, Pulisic allows his football to do the talking, and this season, perhaps more than the previous two, he has been the talismanic figure for the Rossoneri.

Of course, it hasn't been just his goals or assists that have marked him out as one of the most important players for Allegri.

His tactical nous has allowed him to seamlessly slot into any formation that the manager desires to play, and the 58-year-old has already tinkered with the make-up of his starting XIs on a number of occasions this season.

Importantly, whether Allegri has played a 4-5-1, 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 3-5-1-1 or even a 3-3-1-3, Pulisic has remained a constant presence.

A willing runner out wide if required, the American has also blossomed as the second striker behind Christopher Nkunku

Whether feeding the Frenchman with balls over the top or through the lines, or to the likes of Rafa Leao out wide, Pulisic's appreciation of the time and space he has to execute has been an important feature of Milan's play this season.

His understanding with the effortless and ageless Luka Modric, too, has also been a joy to watch, and the American will know he has the Croatian to thank for being a creative hub in many of the matches that they've played together.

Milan keep progressing

Earlier in the season, Pulisic spoke with Italian media and opened up on what he thinks Milan needs to do to keep progressing.

"We are getting more solid as a unit, we’re playing well with five at the back, and things are going well," he was quoted as saying.

"We have a great team, the important thing now is to be consistent, take it one game at a time, and have a great season.”

Though the Supercoppa Italiana title would be a feather in the cap for the Rossoneri, particularly if they were to beat Inter in the final again, the bread and butter remains their challenge for just a third Serie A title this millennium.

Inter have won seven titles in the same time frame, bringing them level on 19 titles apiece with Milan, making the first to register 20 titles an even greater motivating factor for the players.

Should Pulisic remain free of injury and continue at his current rate, firing his team all the way to the title in the process, he's likely to become as lauded as some of the great Milan forwards of the past.

In a World Cup year - and one that's being played in his own backyard to boot - winning Serie A would make it a truly vintage campaign for him.
