Levy will step down as Maccabi Haifa's coach

10 March 2008 17:56

Maccabi Haifa FC have announced coach Roni Levy will step down at the end of the Israeli Premier League season after five years in charge.

The 41-year-old offered his resignation to club owner Ya'acov Schahar following Saturday's 1-0 home defeat against league leaders Beitar Jerusalem FC with the club down in fifth place in the standings, 19 points behind Beitar. Schahar rejected the offer and insisted the coach fulfils the remainder of his contract.

Levy has been in charge of Haifa since 2003, leading the club to the league title in each of his first three seasons in charge and the UEFA Cup Round of 16 in 2006/07, losing to eventual runners-up RCD Espanyol, but has been unable to replicate that success this season.
