We're under way at Allianz Arena.
Hello and welcome to the live commentary of the Bundesliga clash between Bayern Munich and Schalke at Allianz Arena.
Opportunity knocks for Bayern this evening courtesy of RB Leipzig's 2-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt earlier today. A win would take Bayern to within a point of their rivals at the top of the table, although Hans-Dieter Flick's men still have a challenge on their hands. They have been in outstanding form of late, winning their last four matches on the bounce, including a 4-0 hammering of Hertha Berlin on their return to action from the winter break. Flick will be eyeing a similar performance tonight from his team.
Schalke produced a fine display of their own last time out to defeat Borussia Monchengladbach at home. Goals from Suat Serdar and Michael Gregoritsch, on his debut for the club, delivered the three points and continued their surge up the table. There's a an opportunity for David Wagner's team this evening to draw level on points with Bayern should they triumph, although they will have to put in a flawless performance.
BAYERN (4-3-3): Manuel Neuer; Benjamin Pavard, Jerome Boateng, David Alaba, Alphonso Davies; Thiago Alcantara, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka; Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski, Ivan Perisic.
BAYERN SUBS: Alvaro Odriozola, Philippe Coutinho, Michael Cusiance, Serge Gnabry, Corentin Tolisso, Sven Ulreich, Joshua Zirkzee.
SCHALKE (4-2-3-1): Markus Schubert; Jonjoe Kenny, Ozan Kabak, Matija Nastasic, Bastian Oczipka; Omar Mascarell, Suat Serdar; Daniel Caligiuri, Amine Harit, Rabbi Matondo; Michael Gregoritsch.
SCHALKE SUBS: Weston McKinnie, Juan Miranda, Ahmed Kutucu, Nassim Boujellab, Guido Burgstaller, Jean-Clair Todibo, Alessandro Schopf, Michael Langer, Levent Murcan.
Schalke have been far too passive in the final third and the contest in general. They've allowed Bayern to take control of the contest, although they've not been helped by Schubert's antics, leaving them vulnerable to crosses into the box. Wagner has to get a response out of his team in the second period.
Bayern are next in action away to Mainz in their Bundesliga clash next Saturday, while Schalke are on the road as well against Hertha Berlin on Friday.
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
