GOALLLL!!! Upon review, VAR confirmed that a defender's leg just kept Griezmann onside before he headed the ball over to Godin who finished into an empty net. That seems harsh on Girona who have played incredibly well, but it was the right call in the end. Atletico Madrid 1-0 Girona

Today's referee, Ignacio Iglesias Villanueva, blows his whistle and this match is underway!
Hello, and welcome to our live coverage of this LaLiga match between Atletico Madrid and Girona!
Now, let's take a look at the players who will be involved in today's match!
Atletico Madrid (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Santiago Arias, Diego Godin, Jose Gimenez, Filipe Luis; Koke, Rodrigo, Thomas Partey, Saul Niguez; Alvaro Morata, Antoine Griezmann.
Atletico Madrid substitutes: Antonio Adan, Juanfran, Angel Correa, Nikola Kalinic, Sergio Perez Camello, Stefan Savic, Vitolo.
Girona (4-1-4-1): Gorka Iraizoz; Pedro Porro, Bernardo Espinosa, Pedro Alcala, Marc Muniesa; Douglas Luiz; Portu, Pere Pons, Aleix Garcia, Borja Garcia; Seydou Doumbia.
Girona substitutes: Jose Aurelio Suarez, Valery Fernandez, Carles Planas, Patrick Roberts, Alex Granell, Jonas Ramalho, Anthony Lozano.
It will be a whopping six changes from coach Eusebio Sacristan with Porro, Espinosa, Alcala, Luis, Aleix Garcia, and Doumbia all coming into the side. The latter two come as a bit of a surprise as they start at the expense of Christian Stuani who leads the club in goals and shots on target, while Garcia replaces Granell who has created more chances than anyone else at the club this season. The latter may actually be the bigger miss though as, even with Granell, Girona have created fewer chances than any other LaLiga side. Facing a stout defense like Atletico, they will have do something meaningful with the few chances they do create.
The teams are walking out of the tunnel. Not long to go until kick-off now!
It will be interesting to see how these sides set up in the second-half. Atletico could try to translate their last pressure into a more attacking play-style though they very rarely fully come out of their shell with Diego Simeone as manager. As for Girona, other LaLiga sides may set up shop at this stage to try and secure a point but, as mentioned earlier, they do not fear the big clubs and will likely keep pushing for a goal in the early stages of the half.
That will do it for our live coverage of this LaLiga match between Atletico Madrid and Girona! We hope you enjoyed following along, and will join us again soon!
Atletico Madrid will be hoping to carry the momentum they gained today into their massive matchup against Barcelona at the weekend. If they can win at the Camp Nou they could keep their slim title hopes alive but a loss would all but hand the trophy over to the Blaugrana. As for Girona, they will be hoping to put this loss behind them before hosting fellow mid-table side Espanyol on Saturday.
