Bayern conceded an early goal against Borussia Monchengladbach as Josip Drmic put the visitors ahead at the Allianz Arena. However, the response from Heynckes' men was emphatic, cruising to a 5-1 win thanks to a brace from Sandro Wagner and strikes from David Alaba, Thiago Alcantara and Robert Lewandowski.
Heiko Herrlich's men have been on form in the Bundesliga this term and are battling to finish behind Bayern to oust Schalke from second place. Leverkusen have reeled off two outstanding performances in their last two matches, putting four goals apiece past RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt, which included a hat-trick from Kevin Volland against the latter.
Leverkusen endured a humiliating loss in the competition last season, being eliminated at the hands of Sportfreunde Lotte in the second round. They've been much improved this term and could be on course for their second DFB-Pokal win, with their last triumph coming in the 1992-93 season.
After securing the Bundesliga crown Bayern have their sights set on a famous treble. Jupp Heynckes' men were beaten at this stage of the competition by Borussia Dortmund last season and will be desperate to avoid another last-four exit.
