Rochdale get the game underway, kicking right to left.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live coverage of today’s FA Cup Fifth Round game between Rochdale and Tottenham Hotspur at the Crown Oil Arena.
Things are looking bleak for Rochdale on the domestic front as they sit bottom of the League One table, 11 points adrift of safety. The only upside is they have played a minimum of four games less than most of the league thanks to their FA Cup run and today’s match against Tottenham will offer some brief respite for players and fans alike.
This will be the first competitive meeting between these two sides and an opportunity for Rochdale to reach the quarter-finals of this competition for the first time in the history of the club. Manager Keith Hill will be without forward Calvin Andrew (Achilles), midfielder Keith Keane (groin) and defender Niall Canavan (ankle). Scott Wiseman, Alex Dobre, Billy Knott and Sam Hart will also be unavailable due to being cup-tied.
Tottenham fought back brilliantly in their midweek Champions League last-16 tie against Juventus to score crucial away goals and snatch a draw at the Allianz Stadium. Mauricio Pochettino’s men seem to have hit a good spell of form just at the right time, with wins over Manchester United and Arsenal preceding the game with Juve, as well as a draw with Liverpool.
On paper, Spurs will be expected to progress to the quarter-finals against the League One strugglers, but the FA Cup has been known to spring a few surprises in the past. The Lilywhites will have defender Toby Alderweireld fit again after he missed the midweek Champions League game, but top scorer Harry Kane will be assessed ahead of today’s tie after an ankle complaint.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon…
Tottenham Hotspur XI (4-2-3-1): Vorm; Trippier, Foyth, Alderweireld, Rose; Wanyama, Winks; Sissoko, Son Heung-Min, Lucas; Llorente.
Tottenham Hotspur substitutes: Dier, Gazzaniga, Alli, Walker-Peters, Sanchez, Lamela, Kane.
There is only one change to the side that were beaten 3-2 by Bristol Rovers on Tuesday, with Scott Wiseman being replaced by Harrison McGahey.
For Spurs, the entire starting 11 has been rotated from their draw with Juventus during the week. Lucas Moura will make his first start in a Spurs shirt, while Harry Kane will start the afternoon on the bench in favour of Fernando Llorente.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: ROCHDALE 1-0 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR.
A perfect first half from Rochdale as they defended well and caused Spurs plenty of problems when coming on the front foot. Ian Henderson had two good chances throughout the first half that he could not put away but he made no mistake with his third, rolling the ball beyond Michel Vorm after a brilliant pass from Cannon. Tottenham have had chances of their own but they have been guilty of overplaying. All to play for in the second half though.
STAT: Ian Henderson has scored six goals in the FA Cup this season. No player has scored more (Will Grigg also has six).
The teams are back out on the pitch, ahead of the start of the second half.
FULL-TIME: ROCHDALE 2-2 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR.
The Rochdale bench and fans are ecstatic! They looked down and out after Harry Kane's penalty gave Tottenham a deserved second half lead, but Steve Davies fired in a poor clearance at the back post to send the home side to Wembley for a replay. A brilliantly fought game throughout from the home side and no one could really argue with the result after they went toe to toe with their Premier League opponents for 90 minutes.
