SAVE!! A huge chance for Empoli to seal the win as Milan commit everybody forward and Thiam breaks away into the Milan half with only Donnarumma to beat, but the keeper comes quickly off his line to rush the striker who ends up shooting straight at him.
90' +6
G. Bellusci gets yellow.
Bellusci is shown a yellow card for preventing Milan taking a free-kick quickly.
90' +5
CHANCE!! Another chance for Milan as they break forward at pace down the right-hand side and although Deulofeu’s initial cross is blocked, the Spaniard gets the ball back and stands up another cross towards the back post, but Pasalic can only head wide of the left-hand post from seven yards out.
90' +3
WHAT A TACKLE FROM TELLO!!! Pasalic is clean through on goal six yards out and has Bacca to his left, but the midfielder takes an age to get either a shot or a pass away and allows Tello to get make and make an outstanding last-ditch sliding tackle to deny him.
90' +1
We’re into seven minutes of added time now!
89'
O. El Kaddouri gets yellow.
El Kaddouri becomes te latest player to be shown a yellow card for slowing play down.
OFF THE BAR!!! Milan are within inches of being level as Paletta’s initial header is clawed away by a sprawling Skorupski, but the ball falls to Ocampos and the substitute fires a ferocious volley against the bar from a tight angle on the left.
88'
K. Honda enters the game and replaces Suso.
Suso has looked lively for Milan today but his end product has been poor, compounded by that penalty miss, and he’s now going to be replaced by Keisuke Honda.
86'
WHAT A SAVE FROM DONNARUMMA!!!! Maccarone is played clean through on goal by El Kaddouri and the Empoli captain goes for power to try and beat Donnarumma from eight yards out, but the Milan keeper sticks out an arm to brilliantly divert the ball over the bar and keep his side in this game.
84'
Maccarone uses all his experience to win a free-kick midway through the Milan half close to the right-hand touchline and Empoli are in absolutely no rush to take it.
82'
A. Tello gets yellow.
Suso gets yellow.
Tello is shown a yellow card for charging the free-kick down too early and when the free-kick is eventually taken Lapadula strikes it well but El Kaddouri gets out to block the shot away.
Skorupski is now down with another injury and Lapadula is shown a yellow card as players from both sides come together inside the Empoli penalty area and the referee has to intervene to calm the situation down.
Minute
Description
80'
Tensions are just starting to boil over now with several players from both sides crowded around the referee inside the Empoli penalty area. It appears Milan have been awarded an indirect free-kick on the edge of the Empoli six yard box area as Skorupski put the ball down before picking it up again.
79'
Huge appeals for a penalty from Ocampos as his cross is blocked by Tello, with the Milan substitute feeling he blocked it with an arm, but the referee isn't interested.
78'
Deulofeu looks to use his pace to get down the outside of Pasqual but the experienced defender gets his body between the Spanish winger and the ball and draws a foul. He then stays down with cramp which brings more boos from the Milan crowd.
76'
The boos from the home crowd are almost deafening now Skorupski receives some treatment to his face having taken a blow while getting down well at his near post to intercept a low cross from Deulofeu.
74'
Milan have wrestled the momentum back in their favour now and the majority of the San Siro crowd are right behind them as Suso swings in a cross towards Pasalic at the back post, but the ball is just too heavy and goes out of play for a goal kick.
72'
G. Lapadula has scored a goal for AC Milan! Assist by J. Sosa.
GOOOOAAAALLLLL!!! Milan pull one back!!! Lapadula drives towards the Empoli penalty area from the right-hand side before cutting inside onto his left foot and rolling a low effort across Skorupski and into the far corner from 18 yards out.
Sosa played the pass in to Lapadula but that goal was all of the striker's own making in truth.
71'
L. Ocampos enters the game and replaces M. De Sciglio.
Vincenzo Montella knows he has very little to lose in this game now and he’s making another change with Lucas Ariel Ocampos replacing De Sciglio.
69'
The away fans are making themselves heard now as Maccarone shoots straight at Donnarumma from distance. Milan meanwhile seem to have lost all of their momentum following that second goal.
67'
M. Thiam has scored a goal for Empoli! Assist by M. Maccarone.
GOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLL!!!! Empoli double their lead!!! Maccarone cushions a lovely header into Thiam’s feet and the striker controls the ball before smashing it high past Donnarumma from 12 yards out.
The header into Thiam was perfectly weighted for the striker to finish.
65'
M. Zambelli enters the game and replaces V. Laurini.
Empoli are making another change now with Laurini going off to be replaced by Marco Zambelli.
64'
WHAT A MISS!!! The ball eventually falls to Bacca from a scrappy Milan corner and the substitute seems to have the simple task of tapping the ball into the back of an empty net from three yards out, but somehow he manages to scuff the effort and turn it sideways back across goal and Empoli are able to scramble to ball clear.
62'
C. Bacca enters the game and replaces M. Fernández.
Milan are making at attacking substitution now with Carlos Bacca coming on to replace Fernandez, meaning Milan will have two men up front.
61'
Milan all of a sudden look to have renewed energy as Deulofeu breaks forward at pace down the left-hand side before cutting inside onto his right foot and sliding the ball across to Suso who is unmarked 15 yards out from goal, but his initial shot is blocked and the ball then bounces back up and hits him on the arm, giving Empoli a free-kick and a chance to relieve the pressure.
59'
Penalty saved by Ł. Skorupski!
SAVED BY SKORUPSKI!!! Suso goes straight down the middle from the spot and the Empoli keeper keeps the ball out with his legs before getting back to his feet to save Lapadula’s effort just seconds later, making up for conceding the penalty with a foul on Pasalic in the first place.
58'
PENALTY TO MILAN!!
57'
A. Tello enters the game and replaces J. Mauri.
Mauri is going to be replaced now against his parent club with Andrés Tello coming on in his place.
56'
M. Thiam gets yellow.
Thiam is shown a yellow card for a foul on Paletta close to halfway.
54'
Not for the first time today Suso skips away from a couple of Empoli defenders and onto his left foot before shooting towards goal from 25 yards out, but as with several of his first-half shots he drags it well wide of the goal. Lapadula then turns well on the edge of the penalty area moments later and shoots himself, but his effort is too close to Skorupski who gets down to his right to hang on.
53'
M. Maccarone enters the game and replaces L. Mchedlidze.
Mchedlidze is down receiving treatment following a good, strong challenge from Calabria, which draws a loud chorus of boos from the home fans who perhaps feel he’s wasting time.
He almost certainly isn’t time-wasting as he looks in some discomfort and isn’t going to be able to continue, with club captain Massimo Maccarone coming on in his place.
52'
Fernandez breaks away from Mauri down the left-hand side before playing a one-two with Deulofeu putting him into space on the edge of the penalty area, but his shot is a poor one and goes comfortably wide of the Empoli goal.
50'
It’s been a relatively low tempo start to this second half from both sides which will suit Empoli far more than Milan.
48'
M. De Sciglio gets yellow.
Di Sciglio is shown a yellow card for a foul on Laurini although the referee did allow play to continue as Empoli had a good advtange, but he has now gone back to book the Milan left-back.
46'
Kick-off! Referee Claudio Gavilluci blows his whistle and Empoli get the second half underway.
45' +1
We’re into two minutes of added time as Suso has yet another left-footed shot from just outside the penalty box, this time dragging it several yards wide of Skorupski’s goal. Empoli will certainly be pleased to have restricted the Spaniard to several long-range efforts only.
44'
El Kaddouri and Croce both show lovely pieces of skill to exchange passes before the latter rolls the ball inside to Mchedlidze who has dropped deep to get on the ball and the striker wins his side a free-kick, giving Empoli to run down the clock with half-time approaching.
42'
Calabria looks to skip past several Empoli players down the right-hand side despite having Suso in support just inside him, but the right-back can only run the ball straight out of play for a goal kick.
40'
L. Mchedlidze has scored a goal for Empoli! Assist by O. El Kaddouri.
GOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!! Mchedlidze heads Empoli in front!! El Kaddouri swings in a corner from the left-hand side and the striker attacks the ball at pace at the near post and powers a header past Donnarumma to give Empoli the lead.
Some of El Kaddouri's set pieces haven't been the best today but that was a superb inswinging cross.
38'
Paletta plays a long, first-time pass down the left-hand side which is straight into the path of Deulofeu, but not for the first-time today the Spanish winger is flagged for offside, drawing a few groans of frustration from the home crowd.
36'
Suso once again picks the ball up in space 25 yards out from goal in the centre of the field and goes for goal himself, but his well struck effort is relatively easy for Skorupski, although it did dip just in front of the Empoli keeper so he’ll be glad to have hung on.
35'
Things just aren’t quite clicking for Milan at the moment, epitomised by Fernandez as he attempts to heave a long ball forward towards Lapadula and only succeeds in slicing the ball straight out of play for a throw-in.
33'
Empoli play good, patient football around the edge of the penalty area as they look for a way through the Milan defence and El Kaddouri eventually tries to lift a ball in towards Thiam at the back post, but it bounces off an Empoli teammate and loops up into Donnarumma’s arms.
31'
Croce is in disbelief as a corner is given against him and his manager, Geovanni Martusciello, is at the edge of his technical area complaining about the decision too, but fortunately for Empoli Suso’s dangerous inswinging cross is headed away from danger.
29'
Milan show the threat they pose on the counter attack as Lapadula breaks forward at pace and has Suso making a good overlapping run outside him, but the striker choses to ignore the support and goes for goal himself, only to drag his low shot horribly wide of the goal.
27'
Save!! Mchedlidze steals possession away from Pasalic inside the Milan half and El Kaddouri takes the ball forward towards goal before hitting a fierce right-footed shot towards Donnarumma’s goal, but the shot is straight at the Milan keeper, although he chooses to play safe and punches the ball clear rather than catch it.
26'
The home fans are just starting to raise their noise levels now as Donnarumma comes off his line and punches clear a corner before Laurini takes an age to take a throw-in on the far side, which doesn’t go down too well with the Milan fans.
23'
Chance! Milan are causing Empoli quite a few problems in wide areas at the moment and they come close to taking the lead as the ball falls to Deulofeu who is unmarked at the back post 12 yards out from goal, but his goal-bound shot is well blocked by Vincent Laurini.
21'
J. Sosa gets yellow.
José Sosa is shown the first yellow card of the game for a late challenge on El Kaddouri.
20'
SAVE!! A huge chance for Empoli as Zapata’s back pass towards Donnarumma is far too weak and Omar El Kaddouri shows a quick turn of pace to get to the ball, but the Milan goalkeeper is quickly off his line to smother the attempted chipped shot.
19'
Chance!! A chance for Gabriel Paletta as he has a free-header seven yards out from goal from a Milan corner, but he fails to make clean contact with the header and heads the ball straight into Skorupski’s grateful arms.
17'
Deulofeu and Suso are involved in almost every attacking move for Milan at the moment, with Suso in particular frequently cutting inside onto his left foot and causing problems through the middle as well as in wide areas.
15'
Milan are starting to control this game now and they win a free-kick 30 yards out from goal on the right-hand side which Suso swings in towards the back post, but Giuseppe Bellusci just about manages to head the ball clear. The pressure is certainly starting to increase on their goal though
13'
Two half-chances in quick succession for Gianluca Lapadula as he first fails to sort his feet out in order to get on the end of a Davide Calabria cross before striking a low, right-footed effort towards goal from 15 yards out from another Calabria cross, but Skorupski gets down quickly to his left to keep it out.
11'
For the third time already in this game Deulofeu gets on the ball down the left-hand side before laying the ball off to Suso for a first-time shot from 20 yards out, but this time the Spaniard balloons the ball over the bar. Empoli then have their first effort of the game as Mame Thiam goes for goal from 25 yards out with very little support, but it’s far too easy for Gianluigi Donnarumma.
10'
Calabria appears to have recovered from that clash with Croce earlier on and he’s seeing plenty of the ball as Milan are starting to settle into this game now.
8'
Deulofeu once again surges forward down the left-hand side before cutting the ball back towards Suso who takes on another first-time shot from a similar position on the edge of the Empoli penalty area, but again he doesn’t quite catch it cleanly and Skorupski is able to get down easily at the near post and gather it in.
6'
Milan break forward for the first time in the game and Gerard Deulofeu links up with Matias Fernandez on the edge of the Empoli penalty box and he lays the ball into the path of Suso, but the Spaniard’s first-time shot is lacking power and is easy enough for Lukasz Skorupski to hold on to.
4'
Empoli have made a good start to this game and they work the ball out to Daniele Croce on the left-hand side. The Empoli captain for the day wins a corner off Zapata but Daniele Calabria is down clutching his throat having taken a knock from Coce earlier in the play. The corner is then eventually taken but comes to nothing.
2'
Levan Mchedlidze is bundled to ground by Mario Pasalic 35 yards out from goal giving Empoli an early chance to get the ball into the middle from the free-kick, but Manuel Pasqual’s delivery is headed clear by Cristian Zapata.
1'
Kick-off! Milan get the game underway.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the Serie A match between AC Milan and Empoli at the San Siro.
Milan come into the game on the back of a dramatic 2-2 draw with Inter in the Milan derby, with Cristian Zapata scoring a 97th minute equaliser to secure a point for Vincenzo Montella’s side.
They currently sit sixth in the Serie A table, two points ahead of Inter and a win today would give Milan a huge boost in their quest for Europa League qualification.
Empoli meanwhile are 17th in the table, just one place above the relegation zone, although they do have a five point cushion over Crotone below them.
They have though picked up four points in their last two games, with a 2-1 win at Fiorentina following a 1-1 draw with Pescara, a result that brought an end to a seven game losing streak.
Teams: Milan (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Calabria, Zapata, Paletta, De Sciglio; Pasalic, Sosa, Fernandez; Suso, Lapadula, Deulofeu
Milan have made three changes from the side that drew with Inter, with Gabriel Paletta, Mario Pasalic and Gianluca Lapadula replacing Alessio Romagnoli, Juraj Kucka and Carlos Bacca.
Empoli have also made three changes from their side that started against Fiorentina, with Vincent Laurini, Jose Mauri and Assane Diousse all coming into the side. Freddie Veseli, Rade Krunic and Marcel Buchel are the men who make way.
Gianluca Lapadula scored twice as Milan ran out 4-1 winners when the two sides met at the Stadio Carlo Castellani earlier in the season, with Suso also getting on the scoresheet as well as assisting both of Lapadula’s goals.
The players are making their way out onto the pitch, led by referee Claudio Gavilluci. Kick-off is not far away now.
Half-time: AC Milan 0-1 Empoli
Empoli lead at the San Siro thanks to Mchedlidze’s powerful close range header just before the break, and Milan can have few complaints in truth having been restricted to several efforts from outside the box from Suso, who has been their most influential player so far.
Lapadula has struggled to get into the game so far, and Vincenzo Montella may not waste too much time in bringing on Carlos Bacca if the scoreline remains the same, while Geovanni Martusciello will be asking for more of the same from his Empoli side, who have defended well and looked a threat on the counter-attack.
Full-time: AC Milan 1-2 Empoli
Empoli secure a crucial three points in their fight against relegation at the San Siro and put a dent in Milan’s Europa League qualification ambitions too. Empoli’s goals came courtesy of Levan Mchedlidze and Mame Thiam while Gianluca Lapadula pulled one back for Milan after Suso had earlier seen a penalty saved by the outstanding Lukasz Skorupski, but despite hitting the bar late on Milan were unable to find an equalising goal. That’s all from us for today, thanks for joining us and we hope you can join us again soon.
