We're off! PSG get us underway, attacking from right to left.
Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Ligue 1 game between Angers and Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade Raymond Kopa.
32 points may currently separate the two sides in the Ligue 1 table but Unai Emery will be well aware of the trouble tonight’s hosts could cause for his side. Angers impressed in what would prove to be a very narrow defeat at home to Monaco last weekend, and that was the first time since the middle of December that they were beaten on their home patch.
Europa League-chasing Bordeaux were the latest team to fall to Angers little over a week ago, meaning that Les Scoistes will feature in the semi-final of this season’s Coupe de France. Stephane Moulin’s men currently find themselves in the wrong half of the table but are close to moving back into the top 10, and a win this evening would be enough to send them up to eighth place, 11 points clear of the relegation play-off spot.
As for PSG, their only concern now that they are out of the Champions League is a fifth consecutive league title, but an impressive Monaco side currently stand in their way. Three points separate the two teams at the moment, whilst fellow title chasers Nice remain just one point behind in third place.
Unbeaten in their previous 13 Ligue 1 games and with victories from all of their last five, PSG will certainly be feeling confident about their chances of winning again tonight. They certainly enjoy a good record against Angers, who have lost their last two meetings with the Parisians. Their opponents did hold them to a goalless draw in last season’s corresponding fixture, however, so they’ll have to be at their best to beat them tonight.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this evening…
Paris Saint-Germain substitutes: Areola, Meunier, Lo Celso, Guedes, Nkunku, Motta, Lucas.
Paris Saint-Germain XI (4-3-3): Trapp; Aurier, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Maxwell; Verratti, Rabiot, Matuidi; Di Maria, Cavani, Pastore.
Stephane Moulin has decided to make two changes to the Angers side that started the defeat against Monaco last weekend, with Issa Cissokho and Nicolas Pepe coming into the starting line-up to replace Pierrick Capelle and Kevin Berigaud, respectively.
Meanwhile, PSG boss Unai Emery has made three alterations to the team that featured in their last outing, with Thomas Meunier, Layvin Kurzawa and Julian Draxler making way for Marquinhos, Maxwell and Javier Pastore.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: ANGERS 0-1 PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN
So far, so good for PSG, who have struggled to break down Angers so far but nonetheless head into the half-time break with a one-goal lead thanks to a sublime Di Maria free-kick. The awarding of the set-piece was contentious, however, and the home side will certainly feel frustrated at being behind, particularly after putting in a solid display either side of the Argentine's goal.
The two teams are making their way back out on to the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: ANGERS 0-2 PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN
In the end, the game was slightly closer than PSG would have been expecting. Angers struggled in the first half but were excellent after the break, and they arguably deserved to come away with a point after putting in an impressive performance. It wasn't to be though, as Di Maria was on hand on two separate occasions to make sure that PSG remain hot on the heels of Monaco at the top of Ligue 1.
