And the full-time whistle goes - that's the match! It somehow ends all square here, with a final score of Newcastle 0-0 Stoke!
90' +3
C. Adam gets yellow.
Stoke are on the front-foot now and keeping Newcastle pegged back well, though Adam enters the book for a tactical foul to prevent the home side from countering when the visitors were out of position. Just one minute left here now!
90' +1
Four minutes of injury time has been announced here, and Crouch has been thrown on for Stoke in the place of Shaqiri. The visitors are certainly looking for a goal now, or at least an outlet to keep some pressure off their defense should they want to hoof it forward!
90'
P. Crouch enters the game and replaces X. Shaqiri.
89'
M. van Ginkel enters the game and replaces M. Arnautović.
Johnson knocks the ball out for a corner, and Van Ginkel has just come on for Arnautovic. Perez plays it in, Afellay clears, Sissoko gathers, Perez plays it in again, and it's cleared once more!
87'
BUTLAND DENIES NEWCASTLE AGAIN! It's substitute Lascelles who rises over Wollscheid to head the ball to the net, and it looks like it'll drift in just under the crossbar, but Butland reacts superbly to tip it over the bar!
86'
Newcastle are playing some flowing, beautiful football here now, drawing another foul from Arnautovic - and he could be in trouble! It looks like he'll avoid a booking for that challenge deep in his own half, where he ran right into Mbemba to prevent the Newcastle player from running into the box!
84'
Butland with another great save! Sissoko gets the ball on the edge of the box, fakes a shot, dribbles in, and then fires a rifle onto the net that the goalie parries out for a corner!
83'
J. Lascelles enters the game and replaces D. Janmaat.
Arnautovic does end up entiering the book, after a late lunge on De Jong when Newcastle were on the counter. Moments later, Lascelles comes on for Janmaat.
82'
M. Arnautović gets yellow.
Minute
Description
81'
It's all Stoke right now, with Shaqiri beautifully lifting the ball over the defence for Walters, who fires his shot far too high from a close range, yet a poor angle!
80'
Shaqiri slips the ball to the onrushing Arnautovic in the box, with the latter trying to cut it back for a shot on goal but the ball is cleared!
79'
Mitrovic swings it into the box but Butland rises high to punch it clear. Elliot thinks he's cleared the danger on the other end but Stoke soon pounce and have the ball outside of the box, losing it after a very foolish pass across field from Johnson to no one in particular.
77'
Arnautovic goes in very hard on Janmaat on the sideline outside of Stoke's box and the flag goes up almost immediately. The former Inter man avoids a booking, but his team now has to defend a set-piece in a great area.
76'
Walters looks frustrated up front for Stoke when a long ball is played right into the hands of Elliot. He wants service played in more towards his feet, but the side have been struggling to cope with Newcastle's substitutions and may be hesitant to lose the ball on the ground.
75'
Anita with some great defending to slide in on Johnson in the box, winning the ball cleanly, with his centre-backs out of position. Both sides have been gunning for the goal since the opening whistle here and neither are showing any signs of slowing down!
73'
Peiters holds onto Mitrovic, conceding a free-kick, which the striker tries to get on the end of. Shawcross has his arm out to prevent the Newcastle player from getting forward, and he goes down in the box, but no call is made!
72'
NEARLY FOR MITROVIC... HE WAS OFFSIDE ANYWAY! Wijnaldum gets from box to box to send a cross towards the striker; not realizing he's offside, he rounds Butland and tries a deft finish, but Pieters slides to make the stop anyway!
71'
S. de Jong enters the game and replaces C. Tioté.
Tiote comes off after a decent showing in the midfield for De Jong, but it's Newcastle who are on the backfoot after the substitute, with Stoke captalizing on a poor ball and it takes Wijnaldum tracking back to stop that!
70'
Stoke keep trying to play a similar kind of ball into the box, looking for an incisive cross that swings past the defence but finds Walters, and so far it has not paid dividends. With 20 minutes left here, there's all to play for!
68'
Mitrovic is pulled down by Shacross, giving Newcastle a free-kick in a great area. It's the man of the moment, Perez, who whips it into the box, but it lands in the area between the players and the goalie before bouncing out harmlessly.
66'
Adam gets on the end of the ball very deep in Newcastle's half and plays an intriguing pass towards the far post, but no one reads it and fails to get to it!
65'
Tiote loses the ball in midfield, finally giving Stoke a chance to maintain the ball. Afellay works it wide, going out to Shaqiri, who dinks a ball into Arnautovic that Coloccini stretches to clear!
64'
It's Perez again who is just uncontainable this half, getting to the byline and slipping a cross into the box that Stoke struggle to clear. Mitrovic is soon in the middle of another tussle, pushing Johnson down, but avoids a second booking - though he certainly needs to be careful now!
63'
P. Wollscheid gets yellow.
A. Mitrović gets yellow.
Wollscheid and Mitrovic are both booked! He went face-to-face with Mitrovic after the ball went out, with both players wanting it. The Newcastle man made a meal of it, after pushing the centre-back, and Wollscheid retaliated by pushing him with his chest!
62'
Afellay gets it wide to Pieters, who whips a cross into Newcastle's box. It isn't cleared and is played back to the substitute, who slips it to Walters. The forward tries a cheeky, Ibrahimovic-esque backheel finish but he's offside and it's saved anyway!
61'
Newcastle now are estabishing themselves more as a calmer, dominant side. They've gone close a few times now through Perez and are building up from the back confidently.
60'
I. Afellay enters the game and replaces Bojan Krkić.
Here comes the first change of the half, with Bojan off for Affelay, the former Barcelona players trading spots on the field, and Hughes surely hoping that the latter is more effective than the former.
58'
Adam gets his pocket picked and Newcastle counter ferociously, which ends with yet another Perez shot that Butland powerfully pushes out for a corner!
57'
The half looks to finally be settling into a tighter kind of affair, with the midfields now getting packed and busy. Neither side is holding onto the ball well, with some errant passes and over-eager through balls up to strikers.
55'
A corner for Newcastle comes to nothing, though a few strikers and centre-backs were flirting to scoring a goal. Unlike the first half, when both sides weren't really testing the keepers, both keepers have been very busy thus far here!
53'
Another great counter from Stoke but Elliot is once again equal to the task, launching a great counter that Sissoko breaks free down the middle to get to an nearly slides it into the net! This game has really come alive and both sides are so, so close to scoring!
51'
Walters leads a counter superbly for Stoke, crossing it wide for a delivery to be returned to him and his header forces Elliot into a low save! That was a powerful header and equal to Wijnaldum's effort just moments before!
49'
Wijnaldum wins a free-kick just outside of Stoke's box and then takes it, delivering an excellent strike that nearly dips in under the upright but drawing a superb save out of Butland!
48'
Ayoze gets the ball just outside the box, dribbles into it, and then unleashes a curling shot that goes just wide of the far post! That was very, very good and nearly broke the deadlock here!
46'
The second half is underway! Newcastle begins with the ball but can't make headway, then lose the ball for a Stoke corner. The visitors have the ball cleared soon, though, and both sides are still looking for something incisive.
45'
And not a second of extra-time is given: that's the half! It's been fairly entertaining, with lots of half chances but nothing that's truly tested the keepers.
44'
Anita runs through the back of Bojan and suddenly Stoke have a free-kick on the left wing, that Shaqiri whips into the box. It's cleared, but only to Johnson, who tries another cross that Wollscheid can't get to!
42'
After a while of being pegged back in their own half, Newcastle have the ball and try to build something here. Tiote tries a cross into the box that's blocked, and soon it's back with Stoke, who are doing everything with more ease than the homeside are now.
40'
A wicked cross is played into the box and Bojan tries to redirect it with a high boot onto the target, but Elliot watches it the whole way and gathers it easily. This is good pressure from Stoke, now, looking for a goal before the interval.
38'
Bojan, who's been quiet so far, concedes a free-kick deep in his half by purposefully sticking his arm out to cut out a pass. He isn't booked for that intentional hand-ball, and Ayoze swings it in, but it's cleared.
37'
Perez and Mitrovic combine well on the edge of the box, with the former trying to dribble and juke his way inside - he goes down, and the fans are angry, but once again Referee East does not blow the whistle.
35'
Frustrated with the sea of black and white in front of him, Adam tries a long range effort from distance - and why not, given his track record with those, as evidenced by his stirke against Chelsea last season - but it sails harmlessly over the bar.
34'
Mitrovic has the ball deep in Stoke's box following a counter but his attempt to cut it back across the face of goal is cleared by Wollscheid!
33'
Newcastle have a corner now, which is played by Ayoze into the middle of the box, taking a bounce before being cleared. Stoke try to counter, but Shaqiri has to go deeper in his half before playing it back out wide. Bojan runs into Dummett in the box and loses his footing, but doesn't appeal for a penalty.
32'
Still the visitors on the ball here at the moment. They really aren't playing like the stereotypical away team; this Stoke side are not set up to defend and counter, but seem to like playing on the front foot and building up their goals well.
30'
Stoke don't let that moment rattle them and are keeping the ball well now. The wide forwards are tucking inside to help the midfield gain some width as needed when Newcastle are flooding the middle of the pitch.
28'
MITROVIC OFF THE UPRIGHT! An excellent cross from Tiote is played in perfectly for the stirker, who nods it onto upright. It bounces around Butland a few times before he can gather it!
27'
Stoke on the ball now, with Walters fighting the centre-backs to get on the end of the ball and spray it wide. Shaqiri works his way on the line of the box, edging past one defender and trying to touch it around another to set himself up for a shot - but he's done too much and Dummett doesn't need to be told twice to get it out!
25'
Mitrovic is offside again as another high ball is played in, with Johnson stepping up just at the right time to ensure that the striker wasn't clear through on net.
23'
Stoke's turn to be offside now, with Adam playing a great ball over the top of the Newcastle defence, but Walters is too eager to get there and the flag is soon up.
22'
Tiote wants to go forward but is under pressure, so he passes it back to his defence. The side work it to the right before hoofing it up to Mitrovic, who brings it down expertly - but alas, he's offside, and the whistle is fairly blown.
21'
This game has a fascinating amount of space that each side are leaving around the pitch - both look to press high and are trying to score, leaving players with time on the ball to make decisions and plenty of slide tackles flying about.
19'
You'd never know how poor of a season Newcastle are having based purely on their fans at Saint James' Park - the crowd are in full voice and urging their team forward at every chance!
17'
OUF NEARLY FOR STOKE! Adam plays an absolutely superb ball in that Mbemba tries to clear but misses completely; it drifts to Walters but just ahead of him so that he can't touch it into the net!
16'
Close from Stoke! The corner is played deep and Johnson manages to make a run unmarked to the far post, but his header is only deflected out for another corner! Poor marking from the home side. The subsequent corner is played deep to Shawcross for a header that causes Elliot to take two tries to gather.
14'
Perez plays a corner short to Anita, who sends a nice dinked ball over the top... of everyone, allowing Shaqiri to counter. He tries to slip Arnautpovic in, but Mbemba slides in smartly to cut out the chance.
13'
McClaren's men are spending quite a bit of time around the box, deep in Stoke's half, but that incisive final ball is lacking, and for the dangerous positioning they're in, the visitors don't really look like conceding at the moment.
11'
Excellent from the home side in the box! It was Ayoze with a clever pass to Mitrovic, who touched it wide for Sissoko, who dribbled down the box and cut the ball back across, but none of his teammates were able to reach it!
10'
Stoke counter, and Johnson switches flanks to Arnautovic, and this time it's Sissoko who positions himself well to prevent a cross into the box and win back the ball.
9'
Another fantastic play from Shawcross on Mitrovic - what a duel this is already turning out to be! The forward had the ball in a good area, deep in Stoke's half, but the visiting captain did just enough to knock it out for a throw-in.
8'
Mitrovic fires and Shawcross blocks it wide for a corner! It was off the back of a nice cross into the box, which the forward touched before getting the first effort off that was so nearly on target.
6'
As the game is developing, there's more space in the midfield with the two defences pressing less high, giving both teams more breathing room on the ball. Whelan motors down the flank, sparking some nice team passing, but Tiote sticks out a leg to win possession.
5'
OHHH AND SHOULD THAT HAVE BEEN A PENALTY?! Bojan goes down in the box under some pressure but the referee waves play on! The former Barcelona man can't believe it, though in all honesty, it did not truly look like a formidable challenge.
4'
Stoke's gameplan here looks to be to counter quickly as Newcastle stranglehold the ball, but when the home side lose the ball, it's all too easy for the Potters to work their way down the flank.
2'
After a frantic minute, Newcastle are settling the ball, before Janmaat sends a high ball down the flank which Sissoko can't get to. Stoke are in no rush to take the ensuing throw-in, which is played to the Newcastle backline. Coloccini heads it clear.
1'
AND WE HAVE KICK-OFF! It's the visitors who begin with the ball, but Krkic loses it immediately from the kick-off to Mitrovic! The forward is dispossessed by the box, and it's soon back with Stoke, with Shaqiri and Arnautovic probing just outside of the area.
Hello all and welcome to our live match coverage of Newcastle vs Stoke! It's 19th hosting 14th today in the Premier League, though given this is a season which sees Chelsea in 15th and nearly double digit points away from a Champions' League spot, surely anything can happen here!
The injuury list for these two sides is quite extensive. Steve McClaren's men will be without Riviere, Obertan, and Krul, as well as Colback due to suspension. Meanwhile, Mark Hughes won't be able to call upon Walters, Johnson, Cameron, or Muniesa.
In the Premier League, Newcastle's recent form is a bit... odd. They've lost at home to Watford, got thumped away at Manchester City, and comprehesively were defeated at Sunderland, but they eeked out a home draw against Chelsea and absolutely demolished Norwhich!
Stoke, meanwhile, have recovered from a shay start to the league, after failing to win in their first five matches, to record three wins and a draw in their last five. They haven't yet scored more than two goals a game, though, and have just two goals in their past three matches.
Both of these teams, then, head into this game off of the back of defeats. where the first goal was conceded just around halftime and the dagger was slotted in during the second half. The visitors are tied for being the second-lowest side in the league, and Newcastle are not far above them, having scored half of their 12 league goals in just one game!
We're just moments away from the kick-off now!
McClaren will want a little more from his men; though they've hit the crossbar, they've conceded a lot of the intitiative to the visitors, and they despreately need the points to rise out of the relegation zone.
As for Stoke, they're controlling the game well, although they're perhaps a little too eager to pass at inopportune moments and may be rushing plays instead of letting them develop. Let's see how the rest of the game goes in 15!
Newcastle played very well but will be angry that they didn't score, with Butland utterly superb in the second half. Still, they can take heart from this and know that playing like this is more than enough to beat many keepers in the league - as well as taking a useful point in their bid to crawl up the table.
Stoke, meanwhile, showed flashes of promise but not enough consistency, and need a better gameplan up front to make use of their pacey, tricky wingers. Thank you for joining us here!
