THAT'S IT! The final whistle sounds and Liverpool secure three important points in their chase for a top four finish.
90' +2
Gutierrez wins the ball from Allen atop the area and starts Newcastle forward. Cabella makes a lovely run into the final third and wins a free kick from 25-yards out. Perhaps a chance for the visitors to grab a consolation goal?
90'
Alberto Moreno gets yellow.
Into the first of four minutes of added time and Alberto Moreno has picked up a booking for a tackle near the halfway line. Newcastle concede possession shortly after and Liverpool can run more precious time off the clock.
89'
R. Lambert enters the game and replaces R. Sterling.
There is very little happening out on the pitch as the final second tic off the clock. The ball is being contained in midfield, with Liverpool predominantly in possession, though showing little intent to get forward and add to their lead.
87'
Liverpool are cruising through the final minutes here, playing keep away from Newcastle. This win will put them four points behind Manchester City in fourth, but they still have plenty of work to do to catch the Sky Blues with just six games remaining.
86'
Y. Gouffran enters the game and replaces Ayoze Pérez.
85'
STAT ATTACK: Newcastle won five consecutive Premier League matches in October to November of this season. If you take out that run, they have just four victories from their remaining 26 league games (W4, D8, L14).
83'
M. Sissoko gets a second yellow card and is sent off.
NEWCASTLE DOWN TO 10 MEN! It's a fine line between working hard and being careless, and Sissoko has crossed it here. He lunges into a challenge in midfield and gets his studs up into the shin of Leiva. It's a horrendous tackle that should have been a straight red, but nonetheless, it's a second yellow and a sending off for the Frenchman.
82'
CHAOS! Liverpool get their big men forward from the back to cause havoc in the area and they do just that. Lovren meet it at the far post, but his header is blocked. Newcastle don't clear and Lovren gets a second shot at goal, but play is blown dead as Krul is fouled as he rushes off his line.
80'
Lovely one-two! Superb link-up between Sterling and Coutinho on the flank, and Taylor can't deal with the forward's pace. He gets into the area and has teammates waiting in the centre, but Janmaat does well to block the cross behind for a corner.
Minute
Description
78'
G. Johnson gets yellow.
M. Sissoko gets yellow.
Tempers are starting to boil over as Sissoko gets in the face of Johnson near the touchline in anticipation of a throw in, and the Liverpool defender isn't backing down. Second later he causes another scene out of frustration and picks up a booking for his actions.
76'
Liverpool are playing much more relaxed now and that could make it very difficult on Newcastle, who make their second change. Abeid is the one to give way, surprisingly considering the game he has had, while Adam Armstrong takes his place on the pitch.
75'
A. Armstrong enters the game and replaces M. Abeid.
74'
STAT ATTACK: Newcastle are winless in their last 19 trips to Anfield (W16, D3). The Magpies’ last victory over Liverpool in Merseyside came almost exactly 21 years ago – April 15, 1994.
72'
This may be too big a mountain for Newcastle to climb now and they are looking discouraged out on the pitch as Liverpool get forward to try and add to their lead. They win another corner and Lovren rises well to meet it, but he sends his header disappointingly over the bar.
70'
J. Allen has scored a goal for Liverpool!
JOE ALLEN DOUBLES LIVERPOOL'S LEAD! The corner is cleared initially, but played back into the area. The Welshman misses his first header, but again Williamson can't deal with it, and the Liverpool midfielder makes no mistake on the follow up, placing his shot past Krul at the near post for his first goal for the Reds at Anfield.
69'
HAS TO BE BETTER! A dreadful miscue by Williamson allows Borini in along the right channel. The substitute has plenty of options in the centre but takes far too long to get his head up, allowing the defender to recover and knock the ball behind for a corner.
67'
J. Gutiérrez enters the game and replaces G. Obertan.
Jonas Gutierrez comes on for the visitors, making his 200th appearance for the club. It's a remarkable achievement for the midfielder, who just one short year ago had a much more important battle on his hands. There's a lovely applause from both sets of fans as he makes his way onto the pitch in place of Gabirel Obertan.
66'
Obertan puts in a good run along the right to put pressure on the Liverpool defence via the counter. Lovren gets back to block the cross, but the Reds still have a corner to deal with here. That will be the last contribution of the match from the Newcastle-man.
64'
STAT ATTACK: Liverpool had scored two or more goals in each of their last seven Premier League home matches before their 2-1 loss to Manchester United.
62'
SMART SAVE! Liverpool are back on the front foot as they move the ball around well in the attacking third. Allen gets a shot off from 10-yards out, but Krul makes a good stop. Back the other way come Newcastle on the counter as the pace picks up, but Ayoze can't track down a long ball forward as Mignolet rushes off his line to collect.
60'
SPECTACULAR! Coutinho makes a truly mesmerizing run into the area, dribbling his way past three defenders. It amounts to nothing for Liverpool, but that was absolutely sensational from the Brazilian!
58'
F. Borini enters the game and replaces J. Ibe.
HOW HAS HE MISSED FROM THERE?! Tremendous play from Henderson on the right to dribble his way into space and deliver in a cross, but it's horrendous from Taylor who not only fails to clear, but plays it straight into the path of Sterling. The forward looks to add to his tally from six-yards out and has all the time in the world, but puts his shot just wide of the near post with Krul making himself big in goal. He absolutely has to be scoring from there.
56'
It's becoming a bit too untidy at the back from Liverpool, who are playing a dangerous game as they try and pass their way forward. Can makes a poor decision to try and play a free kick short and winds up giving it away to Sissoko, but luckily for him, the Newcastle midfielder gives the ball away shortly after and the attack comes to nothing.
54'
Superb start to this second half for Newcastle! They're applying relentless pressure on Liverpool as the corner count continues to rise. Cabella plays the ball off Lovren for another corner, but again the visitors fail to capitalize as the Reds clear the threat with ease. They have to start making more of these set piece opportunities.
52'
STAT ATTACK: Newcastle have taken just six points against teams currently in the Premier League’s top six this season (W2, L9). They lost all five away matches over that span, by a combined score of 18-2.
50'
After rolling around on the ground in pain, Can makes it off without any help which is a good sign as far as his participation in the rest of this game, as well as future matches, goes.
48'
Newcastle try and pick up where they left off at the end of the first half and they do win an early corner through some good work from Abeid in attack. The set piece is dealt with by Liverpool, but it comes at a cost as Can goes down in significant pain and it's unclear as to whether or not he will be able to continue here.
46'
The second half is underway! No changes to tell you about at the break.
45' +1
ABEID FIRES OVER! It's another great chance for Newcastle, just before the half time whistle sounds. It comes at a welcome time for Liverpool, as well.
45'
MAGNIFICENT SAVE! Fantastic football from Newcastle, who have really been on top in the last few minutes. Janmaat plays a superb ball over the top and Ayoze beats Can to get on the end of it. He heads it toward the far post, but Mignolet sails through the air to get a hand to it and knock it behind for a corner.
43'
STAT ATTACK: Newcastle have been held scoreless in five of their last eight trips to Anfield to take on Liverpool (D1, L7).
41'
Liverpool have amped up the pressure again with half time approaching. Henderson is the puppet master in midfield, decisive in possession and providing some excellent balls forward. Meanwhile, John Carver is still having words with the fourth official and you can hardly blame him.
39'
APPEALS FOR A PENALTY DENIED! Newcastle are livid with referee Lee Mason as Ayoze takes a pass from Colback in the area before being taken out by Lovren. The centre-half swipes at the ball, but gets none of it, taking out the legs of the striker. It's a clear penalty, but somehow Mason has missed it! The visitors have every right to be livid.
37'
SENSATIONAL STOP! Lucas does well to attack a ball in from the right and heads toward goal from the top of the six-yard box, but Krul miraculously dives to his left to get a hand to it! The flag goes up to indicate an offside on the Liverpool midfielder, but Krul knew little about that when he made the save.
35'
LETDOWN! A great break from Sterling following a giveaway in midfield catches Newcastle short-staffed at the back. The goal scorer drives forward and lays it off for Coutinho, who sidesteps Janmaat and gets into a great shooting position. He opts not to have a go, for some reason, and his pass is intercepted bringing the move to an end.
33'
The pace has fizzled out significantly as we pass the half-hour mark. Newcastle seem to have settled down at the back, but their inability to get forward and test this Liverpool back four is still a concern for them. The Reds have been known to leak goals, but Newcastle can't score if they don't shoot.
31'
STAT ATTACK: Newcastle have earned just nine points since the start of 2015 (W2, D3, L7). Only QPR have posted a worse record since the start of the New Year.
29'
Finally Newcastle carve out a chance! Obertan finds acres of space on the right and sends a good ball into the area. His cross is flicked on by Perez, where Abeid meets it atop the area. The midfielder makes good contact with a volley, but hits it straight at Mignolet.
27'
WONDERFULLY-WORKED! All Liverpool at the moment and there's no telling how they don't have a second. Ibe wins a free kick which Henderson takes. The midfielder plays it short and into the path of Coutinho, but Perez blocks his shot. The pressure stays on and Sterling gets it atop the area. He uses the run of Moreno as a decoy, but his final effort it stopped by Krul yet again.
25'
IN AGAIN IS STERLING! It's wonderful play from Liverpool - very easy on the eyes. Lucas and Coutinho link up in midfield and the Brazilian plays a good diagonal ball through for Sterling. The forward again passes up a chance at a shot, however, and his ball across the face of goal is too close to Krul who manages to collect.
23'
EXTRAORDINARY PLAY FROM COUTINHO! The Brazilian uses an overhead kick to get past a defender on the edge of the area before a lovely bit of technique allows him to skip past Williamson. He passes up a chance at a shot and plays it across the face of goal, but Sterling arrives just a fraction too late.
21'
STAT ATTACK: Liverpool’s derby loss to Manchester United in their last home match ended a nine-match league unbeaten run at Anfield (W6, D3). They have lost just four of their last 32 Premier League matches in front of their home supporters (W22, D6).
19'
Sterling does well to hold up the ball and win a free kick as Abeid topples into him from behind. Henderson delivers from the left of the penalty area, but his cross drifts just a bit high and safely into the arms of Krul.
17'
CLOE TO A SECOND! Sterling plays a wonderful ball forward for Coutinho, this time on the ground. The Brazilian has a clear path at goal, and the better angle, but lacks the pace to get on the end of it as Williamson rushes across to scramble clear. If it were Sterling or Ibe on the end of that, it could very well be 2-0.
15'
Liverpool are having plenty of success playing the ball forward in the air. Henderson's assist on the Sterling goal came from a wonderful switch, while Lovren and Moreno have both provided encouraging passes since then. Newcaslte are struggling to track the movement of these Liverpool players off the ball and it's causing for some panicked moments in defence early on.
13'
BRILLIANT BALL! Lovren plays a sensational pass over the top to pick out the run of Moreno. The left-back lets it bounce and drills a half-volley at goal, but Krul stands tall to keep it out! Newcastle were caught sleeping at the back there!
11'
It's the first attack that results in the goal for Liverpool, completely against the run of play. Newcastle had enjoyed a very encouraging start to the match. Their energy level in midfield indicates they are more than up for the occasion, preventing Liverpool from stringing more than a few passes together - but all it takes is one good ball forward and a world-class finish from Sterling and the Reds have the all-important first goal.
9'
R. Sterling has scored a goal for Liverpool! Assist by J. Henderson.
FIRST SHOT, FIRST GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL! It's incredibly harsh on Newcastle who started very positively. Henderson sends a great ball across the pitch for Sterling, who brings it down superbly with his first touch just inside the area. He shows a bit of trickery to create space for a shot with Taylor defending, and curls a sublime shot past a helpless Krul.
7'
STAT ATTACK: There have been 41 all-time meetings between these two teams in the Premier League, which have seen a total of 130 goals (over three per game) and not a single scoreless draw.
5'
FIRST CHANCE! Classic counter-attacking football from Newcastle as they win the ball back and break forward with pace. Cabella gets on the end of the move and tries to curl a shot in at the far post, but it takes a healthy deflection and loops just wide at the near post for a corner.
3'
The match is taking a few minutes to get going here, with the ball being contained in the midfield third. Neither team has been able to get the ball into attack just yet, with the players feeling each other out. It's been quite sloppy to begin here.

We're underway at Anfield! Liverpool are in their all red home strip, attacking right to left, with Newcastle sporting their classic black and white striped tops.
Hello Premier League fans around the world, and welcome to Merseyside for Monday night football! Anfield is our venue for this important fixture today as Liverpool try and gain ground on the top four against a Newcastle side desperately try and end their losing skid. I am Alex Moretto and I will be your in-game host, guiding you through the match LIVE as it happens.
Liverpool will try and continue their recent dominance over Newcastle at Anfield, and they desperately need the three points. Plain and simple, this is a must win for the Reds who can jump ahead of Southampton and pull to within four points of fourth place Manchester City with a victory. Surely anything but a top four finish will have to be considered a disappointment for Brendan Rodgers’ side. This is their last home game until May, and anything but a win would prove detrimental to their hopes of a spot in Europe’s most prestigious competition next season.
Newcastle have fallen upon hard times, and the future doesn’t appear any brighter on Tyneside with a few key players unhappy with the state of affairs of the club and set to depart in the summer. The good news is they would essentially have to lose out to put themselves in danger of a bottom three finish – though that hardly seems like a comforting statement for Newcastle fans who had much bigger aspirations coming into the season after an encouraging summer transfer window.
Emre Can returns from suspension for the Reds and gets the start ahead of Kolo Toure in the back four, but Steven Gerrard and Martin Skrtel are still serving the last game of their bans. Brendan Rodgers is also without Daniel Sturridge, Mario Balotelli, Adam Lallana and Mamadou Sakho, and thus has opted to play with a false nine. Raheem Sterling, Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Ibe are starting up top, with Lazar Markovic relegated to a spot on the substitute's bench.
Rolando Aarons and Siem de Jong are back in training after long injury lay-offs, but neither are fit enough to return to action and thus have both been left out of the team for tonight. Vurnon Anita makes a rare start at left-back, while Daryl Janmaat is again forced to play centre-half. Gabriel Obertan is also back in the starting line-up, pushing Sammy Ameobi to the bench.
The always beautiful "You'll Never Walk Alone" echoes through Anfield on this beautiful night in Liverpool. There are few anthems quite like it! It's a warm, clear night with the slightest breeze blowing through the stadium, making for a perfect night for football. We are just moments away now from kick-off!
HALF TIME: LIVERPOOL 1-0 NEWCASTLE. Raheem Sterling has the Reds in front at the break, and for a while there it was looking like they should have been two or three goals up at the break. The Magpies stood firm, however, and ended the half confidently. A clear shout for a penalty was denied and that is the big talking point at the break, with John Carver having a few words with the referee as they make their way into the tunnel.
FULL TIME: LIVERPOOL 2-0 NEWCASTLE. Raheem Sterling and Joe Allen help the Reds continue their dominance over the Magpies, who lose a fifth consecutive Premier League match. It was fairly straightforward for Brendan Rodgers' side, though it could have been a bit more comfortable had they capitalized on more of their chances.
I am Alex Moretto and I would like to thank you all for joining me here today. Good bye!
