Vargas gets to a speculative diagonal well, and somehow squeezes in a cross ahead of Abate, but it flies over the top. There was no one in support anyway, such was the unlikeliness of Vargas managing to get a delivery in!
90' +1
Alex leaps to connect first on a corner, but his header is too far from the target, and too long for De Jong to make contact with at the far post. Into the first of three added minutes now.
89'
Yellow card for Rodriguez after he brought down Abate. De Jong takes the resulting set piece, but it's too long for anyone in a red and black shirt to connect. Fiorentina back on the ball.
88'
G. Rodríguez gets yellow.
87'
Torres is blocked as he tries to convert on the turn from Honda's pass. The Spanish striker hasn't set the world on fire following his loan move from Chelsea. What a situation this would be for him to make an impact.
85'
Vargas fires a speculative shot not far wide, and he had Abbiatti worrying for a second. The wide man certainly has those types of crackers in his locker. Not too far off.
83'
Those substitutions broke up what little flow the game had. I would think that Fiorentina would be the happier side with the point, though it will still keep them in the bottom half of the table.
81'
M. Badelj enters the game and replaces K. Babacar.
Both managers have withdrawn players from their forward line. Menez is taken out for Torres, while Babacar is replaced by Badelj. Neither departing player covered themselves in much glory.
80'
Fernando Torres enters the game and replaces J. Ménez.
79'
De Jong's aggression finally gets the better of him, as he is pulled up for the referee for one foul too many. A small blot on what has been a great game for the Dutch midfielder.
Minute
Description
78'
N. de Jong gets yellow.
GREAT COUNTER! Ilicic, down the left, finds Babacar centrally with a good deceptive cutback. The striker takes it first time, but can't test Abbiati. Way over the bar, a poor end.
76'
Handball? Menez has a shot on the turn that's closed down by Savic, with the fans appealing for a spot kick. Replays show that it was definitely NOT a handball, and the referee does well to wave play on.
74'
The fans are starting to get frustrated in the stands as Milan keep the pressure on for an extended spell without any breakthrough. Fiorentina have had some defending to do in the last few minutes.
72'
El Shaarawy has a shot blocked from the corner of the box. That's the best that it's been in terms of chances since Fiorentina drew level. Bigger question - do any of these sides deserve to win?
70'
J. Vargas enters the game and replaces M. Fernández.
Fernandez jogs off to be replaced by Vargas. The former scored the winner midweek against PAOK, but he's been rather ineffective tonight. Can the Peruvian inject some of his trademark energy into the game?
68'
G. Bonaventura enters the game and replaces A. Poli.
Straight swap in the Milan midfield, as Bonaventura will replace Poli. An attack-minded change from Inzaghi, as the former is more likely to make something happen in the final third than the latter.
66'
We needed it and we got it. This is bound to open up the game. Neither of these sides can afford to sleep on the potential three points on offer, so there's no telling what might happen.
64'
J. Iličić has scored a goal for Fiorentina! Assist by J. Cuadrado.
FIORENTINA DRAW LEVEL! That was Ilicic. He strides past multiple players, with a desperate lunge by Alex his only real opposition. With nothing standing in his way, he brings the ball onto his left foot and fires it into the bottom corner!
62'
My word does this game need another goal. Every attack has seemingly been faxed in hours in advanced - there's no unpredictability, no dynamism. Milan don't look like they care to expand on this one-goal lead.
61'
S. Muntari gets yellow.
60'
Fernandez really catches hold of a shot from 25 yards, but it has too much mustard on it and flies over the bar. The Viola are finding their way into the final third rather easily, but are still lacking an X-factor.
58'
The referee allows play to go on even after a foul by Milan. Cuadrado takes aim from 25 yards, but his effort is right at Abbiati, who makes no mistake. Better from the visitors.
56'
Awkward there for Abbiati, but you wouldn't know it given his reaction. A back pass from Abate comes in with Babacar closing down. However, the keeper nonchalantly flicks it back to the full back.
54'
J. Iličić enters the game and replaces J. Kurtič.
Kurtic has had a couple of pops from range in this game, but his night is at an end. Ilicic is the man chosen to replace him. A forward-thinking swap from Montella, with his side still chasing.
52'
SAVED BY NETO! Menez is fed by Honda on the break, and goes galloping. He takes it all the way into shooting range, but fires right down the throat of the Fiorentina keeper.
50'
Milan try to make lightning striker twice. Another corner, but no free headers this time. Fiorentina still can't get it clear in time though, but the eventual shot from the top of the box is deflected.
48'
A quick flick goes in towards Babacar, but Abate, tracking centrally, makes an important challenge. Moments later, Muntari makes a stupid sliding challenge to give away a free kick.
46'
Here we go again.
43'
This has been very negative from Milan since taking the lead. They've allowed Fiorentina to have all of the ball and though their defending has been stellar, it will be huge risk to sit on the one-goal lead for long in the second half.
41'
Juan Cuadrado is given a yellow card for a bad foul on Honda. First booking of the game, that, but I doubt that it will be the last, with the likes of Muntari on their final warning.
40'
J. Cuadrado gets yellow.
39'
Zapata, for all his strengths, is not the coolest customer on the ball. He nearly gifts Fiorentina a great chance when put under pressure. A lone blip in an otherwise assured Milan defensive performance.
37'
Milan signed Gianni Vio, the set-piece coaching maestro this summer from Fiorentina to add to their backroom staff. Their first goal against the Viola was from a set piece.
35'
Chance to get back into the game for Fiorentina, as Kurtic has a crack on goal that flies just wide of the far post. A more rapid buildup from the visitors that kept Milan guessing. They need more of that.
33'
It's been all Fiorentina since the opener, though their ideas are almost non-existent on the ball. Cuadrado, normally so unpredictable, is little more than a passenger in this game.
31'
Past the half hour mark at San Siro, and it's Nigel De Jong's header which separates the sides. Fiorentina are putting more pressure in the final third, but Milan are dealing with it comfortably.
29'
Cuadrado misses the target from distance, rolling the ball harmlessly wide of Abbiati's post. A sign that Fiorentina are starting to take this game more seriously? They're slowly getting more men forward.
27'
I'd say that Milan just about deserve that goal. They've been the better side in this game, and Fiorentina now have to shake off the shackles to find a way back into this match.
25'
N. de Jong has scored a goal for AC Milan! Assist by C. Zapata.
OPENER! MILAN HAVE SCORED! Terrible defending from Fiorentina. Milan float a set piece to the back post, Zapata flicks it back into contention and De Jong does the rest with his forehead.
23'
WHAT AN ATTEMPT AND WHAT A SAVE! El Shaarawy takes the ball on the turn and curls a belter towards the far corner, but Neto springs to push it away excellently. On second thought, scratch that. The Milan striker was called for an offside moments before the play.
21'
Aquilani plants a long ball up towards Babacar, but the striker can't take it in stride, and starts rolling on the floor in hopes of a penalty. The referee wasn't born yesterday though.
19'
De Jong relishes this type of game - scrappy and competitive. He's come in with a few tackles already. The Dutch midfielder has typically proven himself whenever he has taken the field for Milan.
17'
Second bad foul from Muntari in this game, and the Ghanaian midfielder is not making himself too many friends on the playground. He must surely be on his last warning after that.
15'
Milan's turn to go on the defensive, as they pack bodies around their own box to prevent Fiorentina from getting a glimpse of a shooting chance. Giving them a taste of their own brew.
13'
Not a lot happening out on the pitch. There's been a general lack of width, as most forays forward have been channeled centrally. No surprise there, given the general dearth of space.
11'
Fiorentina have to get so many bodies behind the ball in the opening exchanges. Very much defending by committee so far, as they swarm the man on the ball whenever he gets within shooting range.
9'
The fouls continue to pile up in this game - really scrappy stuff to start. Abate has a hopeful shot from outside the box blocked, as Milan try once more to find a way through.
7'
Milan have dominated most of the possession so far, but haven't really begun to break past the visitors' ranks on the edge of the box. Intriguing to see them put together their buildup sequences though.
5'
Scrappy beginning to the game, as Babacar already has to be warned by the referee for dangerous play, after a bad foul against De Sciglio. These teams know each other well, how long until we see a booking?
3'
Milan start the match on top, and already have showcased their intent to get early balls in from the flanks. Menez takes aim with a speculative shot from the corner of the box, but misses the target.
1'
We're off!
Milan face Fiorentina in Serie A, a match between two teams that have struggled to find their feet at times this season. However, recent form for the pair has been positive, and tonight's clash at San Siro promises to be special. I'm Keeghann Sinanan, bringing you all the action.
Milan are on a four-match unbeaten run in all competitions. After that narrow 1-0 loss to Juventus, they drew their next two, suggesting that the wheels were about to come off. However, wins against Chievo and Verona have put the Rossoneri back on track.
Fiorentina began this season slowly, but three wins in their last four competitive games has seen things ease up on Vincenzo Montella somewhat. They still sit a disappointing 11th in the Serie A table though and have scored only five goals in the league this season - only one team, Atalanta, have scored less.
Tonight's hosts have won 68 of their 148 meetings against Fiorentina in the league. The Rossoneri have only won more games against one other side, with 71 wins in 158 matches against Roma. Milan have also scored 223 goals against the Viola - more than they have managed against any other side.
Milan won the last match between these two sides 2-0 in Florence, but prior to that, they failed to defeat the Viola in five games. In fact, the last San Siro clash between the pair ended in a 2-0 Fiorentina win.
Milan (4-3-3): Abbiati; Abate, Alex, Zapata, De Sciglio; Poli, De Jong, Muntari; Honda, Menez, El Shaarawy.
Milan make three changes to the team that dispatched Verona 3-1 last time out. Fernando Torres is the most high-profile ommision, with Jeremy Menez replacing him up front. Adil Rami and Michael Essien also make way for Cristian Zapata and Nigel de Jong.
Fiorentina put forward what may be their first-choice XI, given the long-term injuries at the club. No less than eight changes are made by Montella following their 1-0 Europa League win over PAOK. Juan Cuadrado and Mati Fernandez are among the most notable inclusions, along with Khouma Babacar, who leads the line.
Right on the 45 minute mark, the referee signals for the break. De Jong's header is the difference between the two sides in a match that has been starved of goalmouth action. No surprise to see a dead-ball scenario as the breakthrough. Stay tuned for the restart in just a bit.
The referee ends the match, and the teams will share the points. Hardly a classic, though, with goalscoring chances a rare thing indeed. The point sees Milan move into fifth place, seven points off leaders Juventus. Fiorentina stay in the bottom half of the table in 11th place.
That's all from me. I've been Keeghann Sinanan and it's been fun.
