Hello and welcome to live coverage from Goodison Park where Everton are set to host Aston Villa. It's a happy return to domestic football after the international break and today we see two teams looking to kick-start their season after a lacklustre start to the campaign.
I'm Lee Gormley and I'll be keeping you updated on today's fixture which will mark the 217th meeting of the English game's most frequent foes. Everton have a superior record having only lost one of their last 11 Premier League meetings with Aston Villa, winning three and drawing seven.
TEAM NEWS: Ross Barkley makes his long-awaited return to the starting line-up today after recovering from injury. Irish duo Seamus Coleman and James McCarthy also return to the team. Steven Pienaar returns to the bench but Kevin Mirallas and John Stones are long-term absentee's.
TEAM NEWS: Aston Villa are without England midfielder Fabian Delph for the trip to Goodison due to a shoulder injury. It is feared that the Yorkshireman may be sidelined for a while after falling awkwardly in training on Tuesday. Defender Philippe Senderos also misses out, though captain Ron Vlaar is fit again after a troublesome calf problem.
Aston Villa starting line-up (4-3-3): Guzan; Hutton, Vlaar, Baker, Cissokho; Westwood, Cleverley, Richardson; N’Zogbia, Agbonlahor, Benteke.
Aston Villa subs: Given, Clark, Weimann, Cole, Bent, Sanchez, Lowton.
Paul Lambert's Villa side sit seven places north of Everton in the Premier League table as we near the Christmas period with Roberto Martinez's men having struggled this term winning just the one league game.
In their six league games over the last month, these two teams have picked up just a single point. Villa have only managed 10 shots on target this season, six fewer than Chelsea's Diego Costa alone. Interestingly, no Aston Villa league game this season has featured goals from both sides involved.
Join us back for the action at Goodison Park in 10 minutes as Paul Lambert's team will look to overcome a 1-0 deficit. A reminder that no league game involving Aston Villa this season has produced goals from both sides involved. Villa will have to change that to get a result!
The play comes to an end at Goodison Park and it's the home side who come out on top with a comfortable 3-0 win over Aston Villa. Goals coming from Phil Jagielka, Romelu Lukaku and Seamus Coleman helped give the Toffees the victory! Roberto Martinez will hope his side's win can kickstart their season now.
