That's it full time! Chelsea win 2-1 despite a late flurry from the visitors. The Blues must have had twenty or so shots on goal but they could only beat Andy Lonergan twice in the end. Mourinho's men advance into the fourth round of the cup.
90' +2
Bolton are showing tremendous character and resolve in these final few moments. They have been battered for long spells of the contest but they have simply refused to lie down. Chelsea must be wondering how this game isn't dead and buried already.
90' +1
N. Matić enters the game and replaces N. Aké.
90'
Bolton out of nowhere are causing the Premier League leaders some nervy moments here by keeping the ball and putting it into dangerous areas. For the first time in the game Chelsea seem a bit ragged and uncertain. Mourinho reacts to this by sending on Matic in place of Ake for the remaining minutes.
88'
CHANCE! Bolton are giving it a go here. Joe Mason's mishit shot is almost deflected into the path of Jermaine Beckford. The ball rolls agonisingly past the outstretched foot of Beckford and out for a corner. The Championship side aren't resigned to their fate just yet.
86'
J. Spearing gets yellow.
85'
SAVE! Cech is forced into a rare piece of action after a low shot from Chung-Yong Lee. The winger struck the ball with his right foot after Chris Herd's free-kick was headed into the Bolton winger's path by Kurt Zouma. It's a comfortable save in the end from the Czech Republic goalkeeper but he needed to be alert after being a virtual spectator for most of this match so far.
83'
J. Mason enters the game and replaces N. Danns.
Bolton are remarkably still in this game and their last permitted substitution of the game is an attacking one as striker Joe Mason comes on for Neil Danns for the last few minutes. Can Wanderers take it to extra time?
80'
E. Hazard enters the game and replaces Mohamed Salah.
OFF THE POST! Schurrle yet again gets a shot on target which Lonergan manages to tip on to the post. The ball the rebounds into the keeper's grateful arms, he's probably deserved that bit of luck. The Chelsea number 14 this time cut in from the right wing onto his left foot.
78'
Bit of a scare for Chelsea as they fail to deal with a Bolton throw-in. Jay Spearing heads the ball back into the box which sets Pratley away but the midfielder is correctly flagged offside. The home side switched off there and were grateful to see the assistant's flag raised.
Minute
Description
76'
Can Bolton summon the energy to set up a grandstand finish? They look pretty leggy at the present time. Salah then drags a shot wide from the edge of the box after beeing teed up by Schurrle. Andy Lonergan's goal as been peppered so far this evening.
74'
Oscar looks to add to his goal tally as he loses his man with a drop of the shoulder in the inside left position. The young Brazilian tries to fire the ball into the top corner but his goalbound effort is headed away by Mills.
72'
D. Drogba enters the game and replaces L. Rémy.
71'
Gary Cahill has had a relatively uneventful match against his old club so far. Mourinho then decides to turn to his bench for the first time and introduce Didier Drogba, who enters the fray in place of Loic Remy. Drogba unsuprisingly receives a standing ovation as he comes onto the pitch.
69'
The Stamford Bridge faithful have already forgiven Frank Lampard for scoring against them on Sunday as they sing his name. The match is going through a bit of a lull at the moment as Bolton try to decide if they go all out for an equaliser but risk conceding what would be surely a fatal third goal.
68'
J. Spearing enters the game and replaces L. Feeney.
67'
As Jay Spearing prepares to come on for Liam Feeney, Chelsea right back Cesar Azpilicueta makes a dart down the wing. The Spanish defender checks back onto his left foot but can only overhit his cross which drifts out of play.
64'
Not for the first time this evening Schurrle goes desperately close to getting his name on the scoresheet. The fleet footed winger dances his way past two or three Bolton tackles before smashing the ball inches wide of the post with his right foot.
62'
CHANCE! Remy looked certain to make it 3-1 to Chelsea but the French striker is denied by the Bolton keeper after good approach work from Salah. The winger flashed the ball across the penalty area and it found its way to Remy after Oscar had taken an air shot. The home side are getting closer.
60'
CLOSE! Herd recklessly brings down Schurrle right on the edge of the penalty area. it was a silly challenge especially for a player on a yellow card. Oscar takes the free-kick this time and curls the ball onto the top of the Bolton net with Lonergan well beaten.
58'
Just when Bolton were starting to relax and readjust after the substitution they fall behind. Wanderers have responded reasonably well to going a goal down again with Neil Danns making good ground in the Chelsea half but the visitors can't create a goal scoring opportunity.
55'
Oscar has scored a goal for Chelsea!
GOAL! OSCAR! The Brazilian puts Chelsea back in front with a scorching low effort from the edge of the area. It was a typically well struck shot from the attacking midfielder. The Blues are back in front!
52'
Lee Chung-Yong enters the game and replaces C. Davies.
Craig Davies has been replaced by Chung-Yong Lee and Bolton will go to a 4-5-1 formation. In truth Davies had spent a lot of the game dropping into midfield anyway. The South Korean is a lively player who has the potential to cause Chelsea problems with his quick feet and dribbling ability.
50'
SAVE! Lonergan yet again denies Andre Schurrle as he tips the German's fierce header over the cross bar. Craig Davies fouled Azpilicueta out on the right touchline. Oscar took the set piece and found the Chelsea winger.
48'
Schurrle takes the resulting corner which is headed away by Dorian Dervite. The ball appears to strike Liam Feeney's arm but the referee waves away the penalty appeals. Let off for Bolton!
47'
Chelsea are straight on the attack again. With Salah, Oscar and Schurrle probing the Bolton rearguard. Schurrle wins a corner after his right footed shot which is deflected out of play.
46'
C. Herd gets yellow.
Chelsea were out for the second half a good two or three minutes before Bolton. Which I'm sure was a deliberate measure from both managers. Chelsea get us restarted.
45' +2
That's half time 1-1! It's been all Chelsea but Bolton have certainly been clinical scoring with their only meaningful attack of the first 45 minutes.
45'
Chris Herd, making his first appearance for Bolton since joining on loan from Aston Villa becomes the second player to be booked after clattering Schurrle. The young Australian utlity player has a very combative style and made it an easy decision for the referee to produce the yellow card.
43'
Azpilicueta concedes a corner needlessly which gives Bolton an opportunity to load the box. Feeney drives the corner into the Chelsea box but Cech is able to make his way through the crowd and punch the ball away.
41'
SAVE! Nearly an absolute wonder goal from young Nathan Ake who picks the ball up fully 25 yards out and shifts it out of his feet before letting fly with his left boot. The shot is heading towards the top corner but Lonergan is equal to it and parries it away. What a goal that would have been.
39'
Pratley is perhaps then a little fortunate to not receive another yellow card after giving away another free-kick straight after being booked. Chelsea whip the ball into the box from the right hand side but Bolton manage to scramble it clear.
38'
D. Pratley gets yellow.
36'
Darren Pratley receives the first yellow card of the night after snapping at the ankles of Andre Schurrle. The Bolton midfielder may feel a bit hard done by as it is his first tackle of the night but it was deemed worthy of a yellow card in any case.
34'
Since the goal which has shocked everyone inside the ground not the least the Bolton fans, the match has returned to the same pattern of Chelsea dominating both territory and possession. Mourinho will be furious that his side have managed to concede after being so comfortable so far.
31'
M. Mills has scored a goal for Bolton Wanderers! Assist by L. Feeney.
GOAL! Would you believe it!? Bolton have equalised with their first and only chance of the game so far. Mills brings the visitors level with an excellent header about 14 yards from goal which nestles inside Petr Cech's right hand post. It was a great free-kick from Liam Feeney.
29'
WIDE! Salah this time goes close the winger picks the ball up in the right wing position and dances past his man. Like Schurrle on the other side he tries to curl the ball in but it flashes wide of Lonergan's post.
28'
The goal had been coming since virtually the kick off here in SW6. Bolton will be disappointed to concede from a set piece but the pressure has been relentless and had to tell eventually. What a dream start to life at Stamford Bridge for their new number 5 - Kurt Zouma.
25'
K. Zouma has scored a goal for Chelsea! Assist by L. Rémy.
GOAL! Kurt Zouma gets a debut goal for Chelsea! Salah's corner from the right was swung in towards Remy and Cahill who rather got in each other's way. The ball did however drop kindly for Zouma who stabs the ball into the roof of the net on the half volley.
23'
Bolton have a rare forray into the Chelsea half but Medo loses the ball and the Londoners will look to build again. The Championship team simply can't keep hold of the ball for long enough to give themselves a breather.
20'
Schurrle steps inside from the left wing position to open up the angle for a shot with his favoured right foot. The World Cup winner tries to bend the ball into the bottom corner but his effort curls just wide. It seems only a matter of time at the moment before Chelsea take the lead.
18'
As you would expect Bolton have set up pretty defensively and are sitting deep which means that the back four of Chelsea can have possession in their own half without any real pressure from Jermaine Beckford and Craig Davies. Matthew Mills was down temporarily after being accidentally hit by Remy's arm but the Bolton defender is fine to continue.
16'
OFF THE BAR! Schurrle rattles the Bolton crossbar. Lonergan crucially got fingertips to the shot to stop Chelsea taking the lead. The free kick was awarded after Salah was tripped about 25 yards from goal. No sign of any respite for the away side.
13'
Azipilicueta beats his man out wide and bursts into the box his cut back finds Schurrle but the first time shot is well blocked by Mills. The subsequent corner is then well defended by Bolton and the danger is headed clear. If the match continues in this vein it is going to be a long night for Dougie Freedman's men.
11'
WIDE! Oscar with another backheel but this time he sets up Salah for a chance on goal but the Egyptian winger can only send his left footed shot off target. The pressure is building here.
9'
SHOT! Oscar is the next to test the reflexes of Lonergan after being teed up by Mohamed Salah. The Brazilian can only direct his shot straight at the Bolton keeper.
6'
Chelsea have certainly started this match confidently stroking the ball around Bolton have hardly had a kick so far. Another spell of possession sees Oscar backheel the ball into the path of Loic Remy but the striker is offside.
4'
SAVE! Lonergan has to be a full stretch to tip Schurrle's inswinging free kick around the post. I think the original effort was intended as a cross but the ball was certainly on target and needed dealing with.
2'
SHOT! Andre Schurrle cuts in from the left wing and has an early sighter with his right foot but the German rather slices his effort and the ball sails harmlessly wide.
1'
We're underway at Stamford Bridge! Bolton with the kick off.
Welcome along to Stamford Bridge for this League Cup clash between Chelsea and Bolton Wanderers. I'm Chris Baker and I'll be describing the action for you this evening. Let's crack straight on with the team news...
Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Cech; Azpilicueta, Cahill, Zouma, Filipe Luis; Ake, Mikel; Oscar, Schurrle, Salah; Remy. Subs: Schwarzer, Ivanovic, Hazard, Drogba, Matic, Christensen and Baker.
Tonight's game represents a good opportunity for the likes of Cech, Zouma, Mikel, Salah and Remy to remind Jose Mourinho what they are capable of. Did you know that Kurt Zouma's middle name is Happy? It's also a big night for Dutch youngster Nathan Ake to potentially make a name for himself.
Can Bolton pull off a major upset? It's certainly a bold selection from Dougie Freedman to go with two strikers. Jermaine Beckford is a bit of a specialist in scoring in cup competitions. The travelling Wanderers fans will certainly hope he's brought his shooting boots with him!
Bolton have certainly lived up to the old cliche of 'it only takes a second to score a goal' this evening. If Chelsea had been as ruthless as their opponents then this game would be done and dusted. Lonergan is having a decent game in goal for Wanderers and he'll need to keep up the form he has shown so far in the second half to keep the Blues at bay.
If the second half is anything like the first it is hard to see Chelsea not scoring again as Bolton will surely tire as this match wears on. The away side have worked tremendously hard in the opening period and that may take its toll. The prospect of Didier Drogba stepping off the bench wil be a most unwelcome sight for Dougie Freedman and his side. The 36 year old Ivorian scored the last time these teams meet at the Bridge in February 2012.
In terms of the tactics it might well be worth Bolton bringing on another midfielder or defender in place of one of their strikers. Beckford and Davies have not been able to get into the game at all and an extra defensive minded player behind the ball would may life harder for the Premier League side. I'm sure Jose Mourinho would prefer not to use him but Eden Hazard can always unlock a defence or produce a match winning moment of magic if required.
Jose will certainly be pleased with the way his side controlled the majority of the 90 minutes and the amount of goalscoring opportunities they created. He might however be a little bit concerned by the fact that his side couldn't put the game to bed which ultimately could have come back to haunt them as Bolton were never completely out of the game at 2-1 down.
Andre Schurrle will wonder how he didn't get on the scoresheet tonight. Even when he managed to beat Lonergan in the Bolton goal the woodwork denied the German. The Bolton manager Dougie Freedman, who has endured a tough start to the season on the other hand, will take great heart from the battling qualities and never-say-die attitude his players showed.
Thanks very much for joining this evening. I've been Chris Baker, see you again next time...
