New West Brom boss Alan Irvine receives a warm reception from the home fans, and Sunderland get us underway!
Hello and welcome to live commentary of West Brom's Premier League opener with Sunderland! I'm Nicholas McGee and I'll be here to take you through the action between two teams viewed by many as relegation candidates.
So debutants on both sides at The Hawthorns, with Andre Wisdom, Sebastien Pocognoli both making their Premier League bows for the hosts, while Craig Gardner lines up against the side he left to join West Brom in May.
Meanwhile, Patrick van Aanholt and Jack Rodwell both start for Sunderland as Gus Poyet hopes to avoid another brush with drop in 2014-15.
Which of these two apparent candidates for the drop will start their season with a strong result, the teams are in the tunnel and we're about to find out.
Referee Neil Swarbrick brings an end to an entertaining first half, and it is he who is at the centre of the controversy for awarding West Brom a dubious penalty from which Berahino scored after Cattermole had put the visitors ahead in spectacular fashion. This one is brilliantly poised heading into the second 45 minutes.
Neil Swarbrick blows his whistle to signal the end of a fine opening match at the Hawthorns. Both sides may feel aggrieved not to have taken all three points but a draw is a probably a fair result. A positive start for both teams.
Next up for Sunderland is a home game with Manchester United, while West Brom make the trip south to Southampton in search of their first win of the new season.
So that's it from me. This is Nicholas McGee signing off!
