Andre Marriner is the referee for today and he gets us underway at Upton Park.
Hello and welcome to live text coverage of the Premier League encounter between West Ham United and Newcastle United from Upton Park, east London.
West Ham secured a much-needed three points at Cardiff City last Saturday to move out of the relegation zone, ending a disastrous week - in which they conceded 11 goals in two cup matches - on a positive note. That victory was the injury-hit Hammers’ first in the league since November, and manager Sam Allardyce will hope the result sparks a turnaround in the club’s fortunes.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is under pressure himself after seeing his side slump to four straight defeats in all competitions, bringing to an end an impressive sequence of seven wins in nine matches. The Geordies have also failed to score in their last three matches in the league but they will back themselves to end that run against West Ham’s injury-ravaged defence.
TEAM NEWS: Fit-again striker Andy Carroll starts on the bench again for West Ham but Guy Demel, James Tomkins and Kevin Nolan are all unavailable, while Newcastle name the same team that lost to Manchester City last weekend. Full line-ups to follow shortly.
West Ham United: Adrian; Rat, Johnson, Collins, Taylor; Noble, Collison; Downing, Diame, Jarvis; C Cole. Subs: Jaaskelainen, J Cole, Maiga, Morrison, Diarra, Carroll, Chambers.
So West Ham are right back in it then after Mike Williamson's unfortunate intervention despite being played off the park for much of the half. Sam Allardyce has no shortage of attacking options should he need them, with the likes of Ravel Morrison and Andy Carroll on the bench, so we should be in for a tasty second half.
So an impressive performance from the Magpies, who played some excellent football, particularly in the first half. West Ham boss Sam Allardyce will be encouraged by his side's second half display but he has a tough job on his hands to turn around the club's woeful run of form. Bye for now.
