Mertesacker had his arms on Lewandowski's shoulders there so can consider himself lucky, but the final whistle blows!
90' +4
The ball is put back into play and Ozil then draws a free kick down by the corner flag, but it is wasted due to an offside and BVB counter. Lewandowski claims for a penalty as he hooks an effort on goal but that was a rather hopeful one.
90' +3
Ozil carries the ball down to the corner flag and manages to win a throw in for his side. They will take their time with this!
90' +2
Every Arsenal shirt is back behind the ball and they are currently dealing with every BVB cross being swung into the box. Perhaps Klopp's mean should take a slightly more measured approach in these closing stages.
90' +1
T. Vermaelen enters the game and replaces T. Rosický.
We are into the first of four additional minutes!
90'
N. Bendtner enters the game and replaces O. Giroud.
89'
THAT WAS THE CHANCE!! Poor marking from Arsenal enables BVB to take the corner short to Grosskreutz just inside the area. He clips a first time ball into the danger area and Lewandowski meets it with his head. The attempt goes over the top, but claims for a corner are turned down.
88'
It looks like Wenger is preparing Bendtner for action. He will want the Dane to chase down everything and hold the play high up the pitch in these closing moments.
86'
J. Schieber enters the game and replaces M. Reus.
The BVB players are outraged! They feel that a free kick should be awarded for Rosicky's reckless challenge on Sahin, but the referee allows play to continue and shortly after awards the visitors a free kick of their own! Not a popular decision.
83'
The sting has gone out of the game now and Dortmund have been shocked since conceding the opening goal. Have they got it in them to find a late equaliser? Aubameyang and Hofmann have had practically no effect since their introduction.
Minute
Description
81'
Arsenal were temporarily down to 10 men there but Ramsey dropped in to help out at centre-back and the Gunners managed to repel that BVB attack. The referee has now allowed Koscielny to re-enter the fray.
79'
That could be a penalty! Weidenfeller comes out to claim a free kick but completely misses it and clatters into Koscielny. Had that been an outfield player then the referee almost certainly would have pointed to the spot.
78'
Arsenal are refusing to commit too many men forward, but are getting just enough in the opposition half in order to frustrate them and relieve the pressure on their defence. This is impressive stuff from the visitors.
76'
STAT: The Gunners were denied a victory on their last visit to the Signal Iduna Park as Ivan Perisic's memorable volley provided a late equaliser in the group stage of the 2011-12 edition of this competition.
75'
J. Hofmann enters the game and replaces S. Bender.
Nacho Monreal enters the game and replaces Santi Cazorla.
74'
P. Aubameyang enters the game and replaces J. Błaszczykowski.
So it is Bender and Blaszczykowski who make way for the aforementioned pair. Monreal is set to come on for Cazorla too, surely to offer more protection against Aubameyang down Arsenal's left.
72'
Klopp looks set to bring on Hofmann and Aubameyang for the closing stages. He wants a goal!
70'
SO CLOSE!! Cazorla's free kick draws Weidenfeller off his line but Mertesacker beats him to the ball and flicks a header towards goal. It loops over the keeper but drops on the roof of the net, much to the BVB stopper's relief.
68'
Penalty claim for the hosts! Lewandowski knocks the ball past Arteta in the area and goes to ground as he tries to retrieve it on the other side of the Spaniard. The midfielder did nothing wrong there and the referee knows it, allowing play to continue.
66'
JUST WIDE! BVB break and Schmelzer pushes up from left back. He looks keen to shoot but he swipes across the ball and it swerves into the side netting.
65'
RAMSEY COULD MAKE IT TWO! This game has completely opened up now. Giroud picks out Ramsey in space by the far post and Ramsey peels off Schmelzer and controls brilliantly with his chest. His effort is on target but Weidenfeller stays big and diverts it behind for a corner.
OFF THE LINE! Sahin is forced to swipe away the danger as one of his team-mates almost diverts the corner resultant corner into their own net under pressure from Giroud.
64'
WHAT A CHANCE! REUS SHOULD EQUALISE! Lewandowski bides his time wide on the right before firing a great, low cross into the box. Reus is in position for a simple finish but he snatches at the chance and fails to make any sort of connection with the ball.
62'
A. Ramsey has scored a goal for Arsenal! Assist by O. Giroud.
GOOOOOAAAAL!! ARSENAL TAKE A SURPRISE LEAD! BVB give possession away in their final third and the Gunners shift play out to Ozil on the right. His cross is cushioned down by Giroud and Ramsey follows up to head the ball past Weidenfeller. Arsenal lead!
61'
Mkhitaryan is having the run of the play in this half and he is allowed acres of space 25 yards from goal. Rather than shoot he attempts to clip a pass into Sahin, but the midfielder is offside.
60'
Arsenal are lacking any form of width when attacking this evening. Rosicky and Cazorla are dropping deep and tucking in when defending, leaving Ozil and Giroud without many options up top. Gnabry and Bendtner are their realistic options on the bench if they want to try and change that.
58'
Schmelzer takes a blow to the head as he loses his footing and is caught by Sagna when the right-back leaps to win a header. He looks like he will be fine to continue with the game, though.
56'
STAT: Arsenal are undefeated in their last 14 games on their travels, winning 12 of those since a 2-1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur back in March.
54'
Dortmund seem to be absorbing the energy from the yellow wall, which they are attacking in this half. Arsenal need to ride this out if they are to have any chance of taking something from this game.
52'
BVB get the ball in the net... but it is disallowed for offside! Mkhitaryan split the Arsenal defence with his scything run before laying the ball out wide for Blaszczykowski. The winger sees his shot saved by Szczesny and Reus taps in the rebound, only to see the flag raised.
51'
OVER THE TOP!! The corner is taken short and eventually falls to Mkhitaryan but his ferocious effort sails high over the bar.
50'
REUS... saved!! A great cross from Bender finds Reus completely unmarked in the centre of the box. He glances a header off towards the back post but Szczesny dives across his goal and turns the effort behind for a corner.
49'
An important interception from Arteta stops Grosskreutz's cutback from finding a yellow shirt in the area. BVB continue to prove extremely dangerous on the counterattack.
48'
Ozil tracks back to help his team defend against the hosts but he gifts possession to Sahin wide on the left. The midfielder swings a sumptuous cross into the area but Koscielny beats Lewandowski to it and heads away the danger.
46'
Here we go again!
45' +1
The referee blows for half time!
45'
Just the one minute of added time to be played here.
43'
JUST WIDE! Arsenal back off and allow Lewandowski the space to pull the trigger from 20 yards as he drifted in from the right. He gets plenty of power on his shot and keeps it low, but is unable to guide it inside of Szczesny's near post.
41'
R. Lewandowski gets yellow.
Arsenal have looked rather one-dimensional so far this evening. Ozil has been unable to weave his magic on the game, while Blaszczykowski has impressed at the other end for BVB. There is not a wealth of options on the bench for Wenger, either.
39'
Sokratis surges up from the back with the ball at his feet before moving it on to Lewandowski. The striker attempts to feed Reus down the left but Sagna gets an important block in and breaks the attack down.
37'
HOW HAS HE MISSED!! Lewandowski gets the better of Koscielny and is brought down by the Frenchman, but the referee waves for the advantage as the ball rolls on to Blaszczykowski. The Pole rolls the ball across to Mkhitaryan, who has an age to pick his spot, but he fires wide of the post. He really should have broken the deadlock there.
36'
Arteta concedes a free kick for lunging in on Lewandowski on the far side. He clearly displays his displeasure at the decision and the referee has a word with him to calm him down. The Spaniard will need to be careful or he could be heading for an early exit.
35'
Super play from Blaszczykowski! The Pole spins Gibbs brilliantly on the near side and whips a dangerous cross into the area. Lewandowski is lurking but Mertesacker manages to get some form of contact on it to divert it out of the striker's path.
33'
STAT: Tonight is Dortmund's 100th appearance in the European Cup. To date, they have 49 wins to their name.
31'
Arteta gifts the hosts possession in a dangerous area and Reus gathers it quickly. He closes in on goal but Mertesacker sticks out a leg as the forward tries to pass him and cleanly takes the ball. The big centre-back has made some important tackles already tonight.
29'
Good work from Rosicky, motoring down the right and drawing a foul from Reus. Arteta suggests that a yellow card should be awarded as the Spaniard was booked for something similar. He certainly has a point!
27'
Sagna pushes on into acres of space on the right but his delivery for Giroud is dealt with by Sokratis. The France striker is looking rather isolated so far this evening, particularly with Cazorla insisting on dropping deep to pick up the ball.
26'
CLOSE!! Reus lays the ball off for Grosskreutz and the right-back dinks a decent cross to Blaszczykowski. The winger attempts to volley the ball at goal but he sends it high and wide of the target. He claims there was a touch from Sagna but a goal kick is awarded.
25'
Reus stays down after a tackle from Koscielny which the referee deemed to be fair. He gets up once the ball goes out of play and looks capable of continuing.
23'
Mikel Arteta gets yellow.
Arteta picks up a booking for hacking away at, and pulling the shirt of, Blaszczykowski as the Poland international span away from him on the half-way line.
21'
Great challenge from Koscielny! BVB counter at pace and after Blaszczykowski slips Grosskreutz a pass inside the box, the right-back races to the byeline. He feigns to cross but Koscielny doesn't buy it and times his tackle to perfection.
19'
A nice exchange of passes in the centre of the park from Arsenal ends with Rosicky firing the ball up to Giroud. The striker is unable to control the fizzed pass well enough, though, and a free kick is awarded as the ball hits his hand as he tries to beat Sokratis.
17'
JUST WIDE!! Subotic misses the best chance of the night! Reus swings a free kick to the back post which Ramsey inadvertently sends back across his own goal under pressure. Subotic manages to hook an effort on goal but, with Szczesny scrambling, it shades the outside of the post.
16'
STAT: Jurgen Klopp's men won all six of their home games en route to the final of last season's competition. Real Madrid were beaten twice, with wins over Ajax and Manchester City also registered, at the Signal Iduna Park.
14'
Gibbs and Ozil combine impressively down the left but the left-back is unable to reach the German's return pass as Bender intervenes and shepherds possession back to his keeper.
12'
Giroud is yet to see the ball tonight. In fairness, the game is lacking any form of fluidity so far and it has been a rather bitty affair. Surely things will open up soon.
10'
Plenty of whistles for Ozil as he goes over to take a corner. The Germany international formerly played for BVB's rivals, Schalke.
9'
That is a let off for Arteta! The Spaniard let the ball get away from him by the half-way line and Mkhitaryan was instantly in to pressure him. Fortunately for the Arsenal man, the referee deemed he was fouled in the process.
8'
The high intensity of pressing in the game so far is actually making for a rather scrappy affair. Neither side seem capable of stringing a series of passes together in the opposition's final third at the moment.
6'
The middle of the field is so congested! Arsenal are finding it difficult to find a way through the bodies and it is unsurprising they keep getting repelled. Dortmund, meanwhile, are unable to relieve the pressure as the Gunners quickly close them down. An evenly contested start to the game.
4'
Brilliant football from Dortmund! Some quick, succinct passes down the right culminate with Reus slipping the ball to Lewandowski inside the box. The striker tries to drive his way between the two Arsenal centre-backs but Mertesacker stays strong and clears away for a corner before Lewandowski can shoot.
3'
Rosicky does well to pick the pocket of Schmelzer inside his own half as the left-back slipped in possession. However, the Czech's pass out to Ozil was far too heavy and it skids off the greasy surface and out for a goal kick.
2'
Dortmund are looking to settle on the ball early but have already been forced to pump a couple of long passes up towards Lewandowski. The Pole is being tightly watched in these early stages.
1'
We are underway in Dortmund!
Hello and welcome to tonight's LIVE commentary on what promises to be a truly exhilarating Champions League encounter between Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal. Both teams are known for an exciting brand of football at the Signal Iduna Park offers the perfect setting for tonight's meeting. My name is Tom Webber and I will be guiding you through all the action this evening.
Jurgen Klopp is back on the touchline for the hosts tonight, having served a ban for his outburst at an official in Naples. Still, it is the players who count so lets find out what the line-ups look like...
Arsenal bench: Fabianski, Vermaelen, Monreal, Jenkinson, Gnabry, Hayden, Bendtner.
Robert Lewandowski, who has recently confirmed that he will be joining a new club next season, netted his fourth Dortmund hat-trick in the 6-1 win over Stuttgart last Friday and continues up front for the hosts tonight. Mats Hummels was not passed fit and so Sokratis Papastathopoulos continues in the heart of defence.
The Gunners will be up against it this evening as they face a team who have never lost at home against English opposition. There is no Jack Wilshere again for Arsene Wenger's side, so the coach continues with the same starting XI that defeated Liverpool 2-0 at home at the weekend.
One of the reasons that Dortmund have such an impressive record at home against English opposition will be seen in a red shirt tonight. Tomas Rosicky scored twice as BVB defeated Thierry Henry's Arsenal 2-1 in the 2002-03 edition of the Champions League. This evening, though, he turns out for the Gunners.
The teams are making their way out onto the pitch. Looks like a cracking atmosphere at the Signal Iduna Park once more this evening. This should be a storming game!
The pre-match formalities are all but over so kick off will be upon us in a matter of moments.
HALF TIME - Dortmund 0-0 Arsenal: The hosts have had the only chances of the game, with the Gunners yet to register a shot on goal, but a rather scrappy first half comes to a close at 0-0. Things can only get better after the break so be sure to stick here for the second half!
Welcome back! There is not long left until the second half now, which will surely see BVB up their attempts to find the net. Arsenal will come under real pressure but could take advantage on the break should the hosts over-commit.
FULL TIME - Dortmund 0-1 Arsenal: Ramsey's second-half strike makes the Gunners the first ever English side to defeat BVB on their own patch. Their chances were limited, but an assured defensive display helped them take all three points.
That is it from me, Tom Webber, for this evening. Have a great night!
