Swansea get us underway at the Liberty Stadium.
Afternoon all and welcome to our live text coverage of an intriguing Premier League encounter between Swansea City and Sunderland from the Liberty Stadium in south Wales.
All eyes, of course, will be on new Sunderland boss Gus Poyet, who gets his first taste of top-flight management after taking over from the eccentric and often volatile Paolo Di Canio. The Uruguayan has a mountainous task on his hands as he takes charge of a side lying rock bottom in the league table following five successive defeats.
Swansea, meanwhile, are hovering perilously close to the relegation zone themselves after an underwhelming start to the season. Michael Laudrup’s side are bidding to end an eight-match winless run at home stretching back to March.
TEAM NEWS: Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher starts after returning from injury but midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng is ineligible against his parent club, while the Swans hand a start to fit-again playmaker Jonathan de Guzman. Full line-ups on the way.
Gus Poyet should be familiar with his surroundings after nearly succeeding Roberto Martinez as manager at Swansea in the summer of 2009. He was even given a tour of the Liberty Stadium but ultimately lost out on the job to Paulo Sousa.
And that's half time. Sunderland boss Gus Poyet will be pleased with what he has seen so far, but the home side were growing into the game as the half wore on. Stick around for the second period.
So Swansea earn a first home win in the league this season, while Poyet has much work to do before the all-important Tyne-Wear derby next weekend. That's it for our coverage but check back into this very website a bit later for live text commentary of West Ham United v Manchester City. Cheerio.
