FULLTIME! ...But Krul is equal to his effort and the fulltime whistle blows! It is all over at St James Park.
90' +5
What a chance for a Liverpool winner. The Newcastle fans are disbelieving as Suarez is pulled down on the edge of the box. Free-kick to the visitors - but the final whistle should have blown, surely? Suarez steps up...
90' +2
The Newcastle faithful are willing their team forward but the players are playing for time and are content to keep possession. Not long to go, now...
CHANCE! Luis Alberto - a late substitute for Liverpool - has the chance to settle the game, but he smashes the ball over from 15-yards. It was easier to score!
90'
We are into the last minute (plus four minutes of stoppage time) as Sturridge wins a corner for Liverpool. Gerrard steps up to take it...but it is cleared and leads to a break on for the home side.
89'
A few ironic cheers implode from the home fans as Moses overhits a pass and sees it trickle out of play. Sounds to me like they are happy to settle for a point!
86'
M. Debuchy gets yellow.
CHANCE! Sturridge - who was booked a couple of minutes ago for a clumsy challenge on Gouffran - miskicks in the box after good work from Gerrard and the ball goes harmlessly out of play. Any connection from the England man there would have poked Liverpool in front!
85'
How many classics have we had between these two sides over the years? This one may not be as memorable as the 4-3's of old but at 2-2 it is perfectly poised for a frantic finish.
84'
D. Sturridge gets yellow.
83'
R. Sterling enters the game and replaces G. Johnson.
82'
CHANCE! Henderson finds himself in asimilar position to his earlier shot and again he dips it high and wide from the edge of the area after latching onto a weak clearance from as Liverpool corner. Newcastle are hanging on a bit in these last few minutes.

Description
80'
We have ten minutes to go...and plenty of time for more goals as this game has well and truly come to life in this half. Who will emerge victorious?
78'
S. Ameobi enters the game and replaces H. Ben Arfa.
V. Anita enters the game and replaces Y. Cabaye.
77'
STAT ATTACK: There have now been 126 goals in #BPL matches between Newcastle and Liverpool - more than any other fixture. (OptaJoe)
75'
OFF THE POST! Oh, what a chance for Liverpool - and Suarez in particular. The Reds find joy down the right flank again and the ball is cut back to the Uraguayan, who pings his half-volley onto the crossbar from 12-yards. 15 minutes to go and it's a red tide at the moment!
72'
D. Sturridge has scored a goal for Liverpool! Assist by L. Suárez.
GOAL! Liverpool are back on level terms! And would you know it - it's the SAS who attack! Suarez gets free of his marker in the box and cuts the ball across goal to an on-rushing Daniel Sturridge, who meets the cross with his head before Debuchy has a chance to clear. We are in for a special final chapter in this incredible game!
71'
K. Touré gets yellow.
CHANCE! Suarez sparks into life and snaps a shot across Krul's goal-line - but the dutchman is equal to it ad Debuchy mops up the loose ball. Just under twenty minutes to go!
69'
CHANCE! How many time have Newcaslte been trroubled by a set-piece in this game? This time it is Moses who is left with a free header from a corner but he smashes it over. On another day, the Reds would have put a couple of these corners away. Is it not to be for them today?
68'
Y. Gouffran gets yellow.
65'
One of the main problems that Liverpool have had today is the level of impact their deadly SAS strike has had on the Newcastle defence. Both Suarez and Sturridge look tired after their appearances for their countries in midweek and their ineffectiveness is stiffling Liverpool's attacking ideas.
63'
Luis Alberto enters the game and replaces M. Sakho.
CHANCE! Henderson looks very disappointed with himself for not hitting the target. The midfield man finds himself on the edge of the 'd' but skews his shot so high it would be a conversion if he were playing rugby. But he isn't so it's a goal kick to the home side.
61'
STAT ATTACK: 1 - Liverpool have scored just one second half goal in their previous seven PL matches this season. Splutter. (OptaJoe)
60'
What a game this has been! Full of talking points, memorable strikes, controversy and a personal milestone for Steven Gerrard. We have half an hour to go but it isn't over yet! Not by a long chalk..
57'
P. Dummett has scored a goal for Newcastle United!
GOAL! Ten-man Newcastle are back in front! Cabaye floats a free-kick from the left into the box and the Liverpool defence are guilty of ball watching as the substitute Dummett sneaks in at the back post to steer the ball past Mignolet. A shot in the arm for the Magpies!
55'
CHANCE! Liverpool are knocking on the black and white door as a nice passage of play leads to Moses punting the ball high over Krul's goal. Should have kept it down, there.
50'
PENALTY APPEAL! The Newcaslte faithful are raging! They believe that they should have a penalty as Skrtel makes a critical interception to stop Remy from pulling the trigger from close range. But the defender's tackle is timed to perfection and the referee waves play on. What a tackle that was!
48'
CHANCE! Henderson hits a diagonal ball to Johnson, who cut in on his left foot just outside the box and sends a stinging low shot towards goal, but Krul is equal to it and pushes it out for a corner. Great save from the Dutch keeper!
46'
Both teams are back out and Newcastle get us back underway...
45' +2
S. Gerrard gets yellow.
45'
P. Dummett enters the game and replaces M. Sissoko.
44'
Well...this game has been well and trult turned on it's head in the last few minutes. Newcastle are down to ten men as Liverpool continue to come forward, looking for another before the break. Gerrard - whose involvement was non-existant before that spot-kick, is now at the hub of all of the Reds' creativity. There will be two minutes of added on time.
43'
STAT ATTACK: 24 - Steven Gerrard becomes the 24th player to score 100 Premier League goals. Landmark. (OptaJoe)
42'
Penalty goal scored by S. Gerrard for Liverpool!
GOAL! Krul goes the right way but Gerrard smashes the ball low to his right. That's a century of league goals for the Kop legend and relief for the travelling fans as it has been a laboured Liverpool performance so far!
40'
M. Yanga-Mbiwa goes off after a red card!
STAT ATTACK - Ten of the Reds' 11 league goals this season have been scored in the first half. Their only second-half strike was in the 3-1 win at Sunderland last month, netted by Luis Suarez. (BBCSport)
PENALTY AND RED CARD! Suarez hits Liverpool on the break but is pulle down in the box by Yanga-Mbiwa - it's a clear penalty! Newcastle plead the defenders innocence but referee Andre Marriner produces the red card. He's off!..and it's a chance for Steven Gerrard to grab his 100th Premier League goal from the spot...
36'
CHANCE! It is nearly deja-vu as Cabaye gets into a similar position to his goal - but instead of powering his shot he goes for a dipper instead - but Mignolet is happy to see it drop a foot away form his net. The St James Park faithful took in a collective gasp as the French artist continues to wield his talents. So close to doubling the Magpies' lead!
33'
CHANCE! Alan Pardew will be tearing his hair out as another free header is gifted to Toure in the Newcastle box. Luckily for his side, though, the defender headers it over. The home side need to get tighter on set-pieces or Liverpool will make them pay eventually...
31'
The SAS have failed to get involved much in this game as Daniel Sturridge has come off the field...to change his boots! Remarkable, shouldn't he be sorting his footwear out BEFORE the match?
28'
Newcastle's fans have sparked back into life but Liverpool need to find their voice as it looks like an International Break hangover for Brendan Rodger's men so far this half.
25'
STAT ATTACK - 13 of Newcastle's last Premier League goals have been scored by Frenchmen.
24'
CHANCE! Oh, Cissokho, that was your chance to be an instant hero for your new side. The debutant headers over from six-yards. He was unmarked too. Liverpool need to wake up to get back into this game.
23'
Y. Cabaye has scored a goal for Newcastle United! Assist by C. Tioté.
GOAL! What a strike from Cabaye! The French playmaker brings the ball forward from the centre circle and lashes the ball into the bottom corner from 30-yards. Mignolet saw it late but let's not take that away from Cabaye. First blood, Newcastle!
22'
CHANCE! And it's Liverpool again who are asking all the questions as Gerrard head into the box and finds Skrtel, who stayed up from a corner, but loops his header over the bar.
20'
CHANCE! Johnson wins Liverpool a corner on the right-hand side. Gerrard puts it in the box and Suarez is in acres of space in the box. His header looks ot be heading wide but Santon clears it behind for another corner.
18'
CHANCE! Remy latches on to a ball from Tiote in the centre circle and lashes a tame shot wide from 35-yards. Still no clear cut chances for the Magpies.
17'
Skrtel heads behind a Remy cross and it's a corner to the home side. Cabaye swings it in but the ball is cleared and the attack dissolves.
14'
Remy - Newcastle's latest goalscoring hero this season - seeks out Gouffran with a long ball from the left flank but overcooks it as it goes out of play. So far this has been a game of few chances in this opening half.
11'
CHANCE! Moses goes on a good run and cuts the ball back to Sturridge, but the England International hits a poor shot straight at keeper Tim Krul.
There is little movement from Suarez at the moment - is he feeling sluggish following the International break? Meanwhile Alan Pardew has approached the technical area with a notepad and pen in his hand. Either he is making early notes or he is about to give the Liverpool number 7 a parking ticket!
9'
The home side are playing some nice passes across the Liverpool defence but there is little penertration into the box at the moment. A timid start to proceedings.
6'
CHANCE! The first shot of the game comes courtesy of the Magpies' right-back Debuchy, who finds himself in acres of space outside the box but his effort is smothered by Mignolet.
4'
It's the home side who look to open proceedings with Hatem Ben Arfa finding early joy down the right but Liverpool's back four stand strong against the Frenchman.
1'
We are underway at St James Park with Liverpool kicking from left to right.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live text commentary of Newcastle versus Liverpool. My name is Hayden Gribble and I will be taking you through all the goals and action of a game with a history of classic Premier League encounters. But before we go any further, let's have a look at the team news...
How much will Alan Pardew miss his captain, Fabricio Colloccini today? The Argentine defender misses out through injury whilst out of form striker Papiss Cisse drops to the bench.
For the visitors, there is a Premier League debutee in the form of Aly Cissokho whilst Glenn Johnson returns to right-back. However, it is a case of a denied reunion today as Jose Enrique is absent for Brendan Rodger's high-flying Liverpool side, whilst Raheem Sterling is on the bench.
STAT ATTACK: Liverpool have won seven of the last 10 meetings (W7, D1, L2).
Will the Magpies get their revenge for their 6-0 drubbing at the hands of the Reds in this fixture last season? Or will the Merseyside outfit continue their impressive start and inflict more pain on Tyneside?
Not long now...only five minutes to go until kick-off. Whose your money on, today? All I'm saying is...please let it be another classic!
And the players are lined up and are lead out of the tunnel by referee Andre Marriner. They are greeted by a massivev roar from the spectators at St James Park. Nearly time for kick-off!
STAT ATTACK: 7 - Today Newcastle are the first team to have 7 Frenchman starting a Premier League game since Fulham played Middlesborough in Aug 2003.
HALFTIME - Well, where do I start in my halftime evaluation!? Firstly, Newcastle started the better of the two sides as Brendan Rodger's men looked tired and leggy after a long International Break. Yohan Cabaye's wonderstrike gave the hosts a thoroughly deserved lead but all of a sudden, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa pulls Luiz Suarez down in the box as is sent off for denying the Uraguayan. Then up steps Steven Gerrard - Liverpool's favourite son - to smash the resulting penalty home and turn the game on it's head. More to come after the break!
STAT ATTACK: 9 - All nine of Newcastle's first half shots vs Liverpool came from outside the penalty area. Distanced. (OptaJoe)
So, which way has the pendulum swung now? Newcastle do look the fresher of the two sides as there appears to be a few jet-lagged faces in the Liverpool line-up. But will the one-man advantage benefit the Reds? We are about to find out as the second half is coming right up...
STAT ATTACK: 118 - Liverpool have been awarded more penalties than any other team in PL history (Arsenal 115, Man Utd 110). Award. (OptaJoe)
FULLTIME: NEWCASTLE 2-2 LIVERPOOL. Steven Gerrard netted his 100th Premier League goal in a thrilling encounter at St James Park. Yohan Cabaye put the Magpies in front in the first half with a long range effort but Newcastle's joy was short lived as Yanga-Mbiwa pulle Suarez down in the box and saw red, leaving the England captain to slot home the equaliser. A full-blooded seconf half saw substitiute Dummett sneak in at the back post to put the home side in front again but the SAS combined again as Daniel Sturridge snatched all three points away from Alan Pardew's men after finishing from close range after a cut back from Suarez.
Phew! What a game. Only just catching my breath! So, on a day of personal history for Steven Gerrard, the England skipper leads his side back to the top of the Premier League - for the time being at least. As for Newcastle, Alan Pardew will be encouraged by his side's efforts - especially after they went down to ten-men. Thank you for joining me for this thriller. I have been Hayden Gribble, and you stay classy football fans!
