Rooney continues to hobble slightly as Sunderland are beginning to press with only two minutes of injury time left but United are looking very strong here.
Sunderland have won two corners in quick succession and Westwood is up for it! Larsson with the out swinger but the ball is cleared. United are surely out of the woods, now?
90'
There will be FIVE minutes of added on time.
89'
CHANCE! What a miss! It has come from the player you could put your house on to score in that kind of a situation and that is Robin Van Persie. The Dutchman is put clean though following good work from Valencia on the right and the striker can only poke his shot wide. Moyes has his head in his hands as United should have killed the game off there!
86'
ENGLAND FANS HOLD YOUR BREATH! And now Rooney looks to have picked up a knock too. He is continuing on but appears to be in discomfort with his right ankle. The England International hobbles on...
85'
C. Smalling enters the game and replaces Rafael.
Rafael hobbles off to be replaced by the versatile Chris Smalling with what looks like a leg injury. Five minutes to go...
83'
CHANCE! If they gave awards out for best cross of the evening, then that would have won the trophy. Cattermole links brilliantly with the substitute Larsson, whose beautiful first-time delivery is snuffed out by Jones. Is he the man to turn the tide for the Black Cats?
81'
J. O'Shea gets yellow.
80'
CHANCE?! Rafael advances up the pitch and cuts inside to shoot on his left foot from 20-yards, but Westwood collects comfortably.
78'
Rafael gets yellow.
Come on Sunderland! Where has that fight gone? From a competitive, highly entertaining encounter in the first half this second half has gone as flat as a glass of lemonade left out in the sun for five days! The second goal, a peach from Januzaj, has killed the game. Into the last ten minutes we go...
Minute
Description
77'
A. Valencia enters the game and replaces A. Januzaj.
76'
D. Welbeck enters the game and replaces Nani.
75'
We have only fifteen minutes to go here and it looks like Valencia and Welbeck will be introduced any minute now. United are looking so much more comfortable now.
74'
C. Wickham enters the game and replaces Ki Sung-Yueng.
73'
The home fans are beginning to get frustrated as their side have resorted to long balls to try and find lone-frontman Altidore. They will need to rediscover their guile and creativity to rescue a point against the champions.
71'
With just under 20 minutes to go, Sunderland are beginning to look a bit leggy, just as United have taken their foot off the pedal. That second goal has been a killer blow for the Black Cats, who produced their most convincing half of footballof the season in the opening 45 minutes.
70'
N. Vidić gets yellow.
69'
STAT ATTACK: 2 - Adnan Januzaj is the second Man Utd player to score twice on their first PL start for the club (after Ruud van Nistelrooy). Prospect.
67'
CHANCE! Rooney spots Westwood off his line and has a pop from long range but his shot sails high and wide.
65'
It is fair to say that the whole mood inside the Stadium of Light has shifted and it is now the United fans who are singing the loudest. The game has calmed down no that United have a stranglehold on the game. It's Sunderland who have to get back into this, now!
64'
Ji Dong-Won enters the game and replaces A. Johnson.
62'
A. Januzaj has scored a goal for Manchester United!
GOAL! What a special player David Moyes has in Januzaj! He doubles his goal tally for the evening and puts United in front for the first time with a quite extraordinary strike. O'Shea cleared the ball straight to the teenager who unleashed an incredible volley into the far corner. Turnaround!
61'
A. Januzaj has scored a goal for Manchester United! Assist by P. Evra.
GOAL! It's the 18-year-old Adnan Januzaj who pokes home from roughly 12-yards to score his first goal on his first start for United. Game on!
60'
With half an hour to go it's Sunderland who have their backs to the wall. United continue to knock...
57'
STAT ATTACK: That goal was Man Utd's first in open play for 505 minutes.
56'
S. Larsson enters the game and replaces C. Gardner.
53'
C. Gardner gets yellow.
The away side look rather toothless in attack here, and it's clear that the nerves have not quite gone away at the back. In the meantime, Gardner sees yellow for handball.
50'
Adam Johnson floats a free-kick into the box but the danger is cleared. It is a bitty start to the second half as United look to break at the earliest opportunity.
48'
A. Januzaj gets yellow.
47'
How long will it be until we see Kagawa enter the fold? United are crying out for some creativity in midfield and his exile on the bench is baffling.
46'
We are back as United kick from left to right.
45' +2
Giaccherini has been by far the best player on the pitch in this first half. He closes Evra down and kicks the ball against the Frenchman to see the ball go out for a goal kick.
45'
There will be TWO minutes of added on time.
44'
CHANCE! A huge chance for Giaccherini to double Sunderland's lead. Johnson wiggles his way into the box and manages to pick out the winger, who turns and shots high over the bar. We head into stoppage time...
42'
W. Rooney gets yellow.
That was a necessary booking for Rooney as he stopped Johnson from forming a counter attack. Sunderland are still looking comfortable and keeping their shape against the champions.
41'
CHANCE! Nani manages to shoot from an acute angle and draw a good save from Westwood. Corner to United on the right taken by Van Perise but the Black Cats hold firm.
38'
Robin Van Persie almost capitalises on a mistake by former United man John O'Shea but the Ireland Intenrational recovers well. Sunderland do not look like a side who were bottom of the league at the start of play today.
36'
Rooney curls a free-kick in to the box but the Sunderland defence deals with it. Ten minutes to go until the break...
34'
CHANCE! Wow, what a save from David De Gea. Adam Johnson finds Giaccherini unmarked in the box with an exquisite cross and the midfielder has a free header, which is acrobatically pushed out for a corner by the keeper. The resulting corner leads to nothing. What a performance from the Black Cats so far!
32'
The Red Devils are making unforced errors aplenty. What can Moyes do to inspire his team?
29'
Van Persie wins a corner on the right for United, which he takes but Westwood comes out and punches into touch. We are a third of the way through this game and Sunderland are still on top!
27'
STAT ATTACK: The Black Cats remain one of only three teams that have yet to keep a Premier League clean sheet this season (alongside Crystal Palace and Fulham).
25'
I have never heard the Stadium of Light so loud and optimistic. Every little mistake Man Utd make is greeted with a cheer from the home faithful as Celuska's cross on the right floats over the bar and out of play.
23'
CHANCE! Januzaj hits a tame shot straight at Westwood who gathers with ease. Man Utd are coming back into this...
21'
CHANCE! Oh what a chance for Nani. Evra finds the Portuguese winger unmarked in the box but he decides to side foot it wide instead of lacing it. Goal-kick to Sunderland.
19'
Free-kick to Sunderland on the edge of the 'd'...
..and Giaccherini steps up but his shot is deflected off the wall and into David De Gea's grasp.
18'
CHANCE! Great turn and jink from Januzaj after the ball is brought down first time by Carrick but the youngster's shot from 18-yards swerves wide.
15'
The Red Devils really have lost the fear factor since Sir AlexFerguson's retirement. Sunderland are finding so much joy down the right-hand side and frankly, United look shaky.
12'
STAT ATTACK: 7 - Man Utd have now conceded at least once in each of their last seven Premier League away games. Shaky.
10'
OUCH! Altidore is the subject of a Man Utd sandwich as Vidic and Jones rise for the same ball and clatter into the USA striker. He is back up on his feet but it is a frantic start at the Stadium of Light.
9'
CHANCE! Somehow, it's two-on-one for Sunderland and Gardner is just to slow to get the ball across the box to an unmarked Altidore as he dallies on the ball and loses possession.
7'
CHANCE! Nani goes close with a 30-yard rasper which bends away from Westwood's goal. Moyes looks furious on the touchline after that terrible goal to concede so early on.
5'
C. Gardner has scored a goal for Sunderland!
GOAL! What a start from Sunderland! It's Craig Gardner with the breakthrough. Giaccherrini ghosts past Evra and his cross is cleared by Jones onto Vidic's shins and the ball bounces straight to Gardner, who finishes low to De Gea's right with a first time shot from inside the box. The Stadium of Light is rocking!
3'
Vidic manages to use his strength against Altidore to see the ball out on the touch line. Could that be a crucial clash this afternoon?
1'
We are underway as Sunderland kick-off from left to right.
Good afternoon and welcome to this crucial Premier League game between Sunderland and Manchester United. My name is Hayden Gribble and I shall take you through all of the twists and turns and the agony and the ecstasy of this big game between two out-of-form sides. But first, let's bring you the team news...
Man Utd: De Gea, Rafael, Evra, Vidic, Jones, Carrick, Cleverley, Januzaj, Nani, Rooney, van Persie.Subs: Giggs, Smalling, Chicharito, Welbeck, Valencia, Kagawa, Lindegaard.
Is this Kevin Ball's final game as Interim Head Coach? Or if he were to deliver the goods and see the Black Cats to their first Premier League win over the champions in 23 games and their first at the Stadium of Light, will he be the permanent choice to lead Sunderland on?
The return to the starting line-up of Robin Van Perise will delight the travelling supporters and with Wayne Rooney also starting, it is time to see these two perform as a double act for maybe the first time this season.
The players are emerging onto the pitch, kick-off is moments away!
STAT ATTACK: Sunderland have won just 8 points from a possible 72 in their 24 previous matches v Manchester Utd in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, the honeymoon period is well and truly over at Old Trafford for David Moyes. His side have come up short in their last two games against Man City and West Brom and have recorded their worst start to season since 1989-90. Is this the game when the Red Devils find their form again? We are ten minutes from kick-off.
Who would have thought that managerless Sunderland would be looking comfortable against the champions this early on in the season? To be fair, so far this has been a season like no other, but this can't be doing the United fans any good, especially as they see Liverpool open a huge gap up between them and go top tonight!
HALFTIME: SUNDERLAND 1-0 MAN UTD. A fantastic first half for the Teesiders as Craig Gardner reacted first to a mistake in the United backline to send the home fans into pandemonium. Since then, Man Utd have knocked on the door a few times but it has been the home side who have had more clear cut chances, with David De Gea producing the save of the season to deny man-of-the-half Giaccherini a chance to double the lead. Second half to come...
The players are back out as United get ready to get us back underway.
Kevin Ball will take great encouragement from his charge's first half performance but it was a brace from a new hero for Man Utd who rescued David Moyes' side from embarassment. There is a big future at Old Trafford for 18-year-old Adnan Januzaj, whose winner was a brilliant effort on the volley. Sundderland will feel that they wasted their chances to extend their lead early on and as soon as United had a strangle hold on the game the result was confirmed.
And that brings an end to our coverage of today's Premier League matches. I hope you have enjoyed your afternoon, I certainly have! I have been Hayden Gribble and you all make sure you have a good evening, folks!
