OFF THE BAR! Leighton Baines clips the top of the bar with the set-piece with Petr Cech rooted to the spot.

CHANCE! Everton are playing the situation superbly. Mirallas is holding on to the ball well and allowing his team-mates to give him support up the pitch. Barkley has run at the visitor's all evening and he wins a free kick right on the edge of the area with the clock running down...
87'
M. Obi gets yellow.
85'
Petr Cech and David Luiz have a mix up in communication and allow Mirallas to gather a long clearance from the back. Unfortunately for the Toffees the Belgian doesn't spot Barkely's marauding run up the field and Everton surrender possession.
83'
CONTROVERSY! Ross Barkley plays a simply superb ball into Mirallas who beats David Luiz, the last man for Chelsea in defence. The Brazilian hauls him down but escapes with just a booking because of how far up the pitch the challenge took place.

SAVE! Tim Howard does just enough at the near post to deny Samuel Eto'o who looked to have turned in Ramires' cross.

James McCarthy comes on to make his Everton debut. He will be requried to be defensively solid rather than offensively expansive in these final 25 minutes as Everton aim to hang on for three points.

B. Ivanović gets yellow.

Lampard breaks into the box and collects a threaded pass following a dummy from Ashley Cole, but the club's record goalscorer cannot bring it under his spell and Howard is able to gather.

It's all one way traffic following the introductions of Lampard and Oscar. Everton can't make the ball stick to Jelavic when they have it. The Toffees are badly in need of some respite here...

Oscar enters the game and replaces Mata.
Hazard tries to get the ball through the smallest of gaps inside the box to find Juan Mata but that's not the way Chelsea are going to penetrate this deep lying Toffess defence.
55'
Good cover from Osman as he stands up Eto'o outside the box and prevents a cross. The Cameroonian looks off the pace slightly but I wouldn't write him off from making an impact just yet.
52'
Chelsea are certainly putting the pressure on the Toffees now. Mikel works his way into the box, but the ball gets stuck under his feet and Everton clear. Yet to score for Chelsea, Mikel.
50'
CHANCE! Eden Hazard slams a shot from range right down Tim Howard's throat and the Everton goalkeeper can only block. Thankfull for him, Eto'o can't quite connect properly with the rebound which trickles harmlessly wide.

Everton go back on the attack and Mirallas causes problems for Chelsea before crossing for Naismith who can only stab wide at the near post. The Scot has had an impressive first half.
30'
MASSIVE CHANCE! Howard has moment of madness and passes the ball straight to Hazard from the back. The Belgian squares for Eto'o but Barry rushes across to make the most miraculous of challenges. Barry is making himself an instant hero with the fans.
28'
David Luiz charges out of the back and bypasses his and Everton's midfield in one swoop before attempting an ambitious through ball for Eto'o, which doesn't come off. Good enterprise from the Brazilian, bad execution.

Everton take the kick-off and we are underway!
Good evening ladies and gents! Welcome to live coverage of Everton v Chelsea from Goodison Park. You can send in all your thoughts and questions into me - @HushKerai.
First things first, let's get you the team news...
Chelsea fans finally get the chance to see Samuel Eto'o get his first-ever taste of Premier League action this afternoon. He replaces Fernando Torres who drops down to a very strong looking Chelsea bench.
Gareth Barry starts for Everton after making his deadline day move to Goodison Park. James McCarthy will have to wait for his chance to play under Roberto Martinez again.
Roberto Martinez on Barry in his pre-match interview: "I see him getting back in the England team because there are not many like him. Normally in England you get the box-to-box midfielder, but Gareth brings a more continental approach."
While Jose Mourinho said this on Mata: "He is a player I like very much, that's why he's here. He is a player I trust a lot and will fight for position like everybody else. Sometimes he will start, sometimes on the bench and sometimes he may not be selected because the squad is so competitive. With a match every three days, I will make 'strange' decisions to your eyes but because I think further than the next match and I want to have him at his maximum level."
The teams are emerging from the tunnel to a raucous atmosphere inside Goodison Park. Kick-off is moments away...
HALF-TIME: Everton 1-0 Chelsea
A brilliant 45 minutes of action at Goodison Park. Chelsea did all the huffing and puffing and squandered a long list of glorious chances. Everton, though, have had plenty of impressive in the first half. None more so than the goalscorer, Steven Naismith, on his 26th birthday no less.
FULL-TIME: Everton 1-0 Chelsea
What a game. Roberto Martinez has properly arrived at Goodison Park. There were moans and groans at times when the Toffees persisted with their manager's preferred passing build-up, but in the end it paid dividends.
Jose Mourinho's side were out fought and out thought this evening. Samuel Eto'o's debut didn't go as swimmingly as expected. There are quite a few selection issues for the Portuguese to sort through. Does he know his best team?
Thanks as ever for joining me - @HushKerai - for an enthralling evening of Premier League action. Until next time, goodbye!
