Oof! That nearly took the roof off at Loftus Road. Townsend reacts quickest to a blocked Taarabt shot and produces a vicious, dipping drive that only just clears the cross-bar. Steve Harper was not saving that but Newcastle survive.
90'
Three minutes of stoppage time added at Loftus Road.
88'
Is that QPR's big chance? Derry, Fabio and Townsend combine well with some slick passing before a cross is well-collected inside the six-yard box by Zamora, who turns Coloccini brilliantly, but then blazes over the top of the bar. That wasn't even close and that could just about be that.
87'
QPR are trying but their attacks seem rather aimless at the moment. There's no direction to their passing and Newcastle look just as comfortable as they were with 11 men defensively.
85'
A quickfire Newcastle break sees Papiss Cisse take aim from all of 40 yards. He's certainly capable, as he's shown us all before but this time his effort, rather like his performance today, lacks conviction and is effectively a back-pass to Green.
84'
A. Taarabt enters the game and replaces J. Hoilett.
83'
So Newcastle now have to play out the last 10 minutes or so with 10 men if they are to hold onto all three points. There is certainly a positive atmosphere coming from the stands at Loftus Road now as they will their side to take at least a point from this, their final home match as a Premier League club. Adel Taarabt is coming on for QPR in place of Junior Hoilett.
82'
S. Harper enters the game and replaces H. Ben Arfa.
81'
R. Elliot gets a second yellow card and is sent off.
Absolutely typical! I've just praised him and then he's got and got himself sent off! An innocuous ball over the top is gathered in by Elliot outside of the box under pressure from Loic Remy and having been booked earlier in the afternoon, the Newcastle keeper is now sent off. Veteran deputy Steve Harper is coming on in place of Ben Arfa to take his place between the sticks.
78'
G. Obertan enters the game and replaces Y. Gouffran.
Credit to Rob Elliot. The Newcastle goalie has been struggling all afternoon with a knock picked up after a robust challenge from Stephane Mbia in the first-half but the former Charlton man has stayed out there and when called upon, has been extremely competent. Just over 10 minutes to go now before it's lights out at Loftus Road as far as the Premier League is concerned.
Minute
Description
76'
Remy brings a bit of excitement to proceedings with an excellent defence-splitting pass that picks out Townsend but the winger's cross is poor and is easily blocked by the first man. Gouffran is now coming off, with another Frenchman, Gabriel Obertan, coming on for his 50th Newcastle appearance.
75'
15 minutes to play now and Newcastle just appear to have settled down now. Their extra quality in attack has been telling and their pace, particularly with Ben Arfa and Gouffran, has caused QPR problems all afternoon.
73'
A fabulous surge of pace from Ben Arfa sees him glide past the attentions of three QPR players. He then picks out Gouffran who produces a cross-cum-shot that flies past Green's right-hand post.
71'
Just under 20 minutes to play now and Newcastle are closing in on the victory that would surely all but guarantee their Premier League survival, considering Wigan have to travel to Arsenal on Tuesday evening. QPR are still pushing but the wind just seems to have gone out of their sails after that early second-half surge.
69'
How have Newcastle not scored there? A corner is swung in and a comedy of errors ensues in the QPR six-yard box as several Rs players' attempts to clear it only bounce into team-mates. Gutierrez looks certain to nod home but after an excellent reflex stop from Green, Derry is on hand to clear off the line.
68'
R. Elliot gets yellow.
The QPR fans bay for Shaun Derry to shoot when he collects a cleared free-kick on the edge of the box and the home favourite duly obliges. However, it's fair to say his effort never really had any chance of going in and it flies wide.
66'
Indirect free-kick given when Armand Traore comically miss-controls the ball into the hands of Robert Green. However, Newcastle can't take advantage when Ben Arfa's free-kick is blocked by Hoilett.
64'
Newcastle have been non-existent as an attacking force in this second half so far and that has just been summed up by a clunky move that eventually results in Gouffran nodding it on for absolutely no one to run into. They need to be careful here the Magpies. They are still comfortable enough but they're letting QPR have just a few too many opportunities without causing them any problem themselves. Papiss Cisse in particular has not been at the races today.
61'
Yet another chance for QPR, who are having their best spell of the match by some distance. Townsend is involved again who comes off the byline and slides the ball in for Hoilett. The former Blackburn man slaloms past the challenge of a number of Newcastle places before swinging his right-foot at the ball and watching it agonisingly trickle wide.
60'
Elliot has just shown admirable handling again for Newcastle, confidently claiming a teasing Townsend cross with several QPR players waiting for any spillage. The hosts have been the better side so far in this second half.
59'
Another half chance for QPR. Jenas has been invisible in the middle of the park for the hosts today but he showed good pace and momentum to steer the ball past a couple of challenges before cutting back in search of Bobby Zamora inside the six-yard box. However, the England international was denied by the attentions of Debuchy.
57'
Almost an opening for QPR. Hoilett and Zamora link up well not for the first time today but when the latter tries to find Remy, his pass is brilliantly read by Fabricio Coloccini who shows all his experience to simply step in and clear away.
55'
Shaun Derry has just shown exactly why he is so appreciated by the Loftus Road faithful, straining every sinew to keep pace with the sprightly Yoan Gouffran to win a goal-kick for his side.
53'
This match has failed to really get started in this second period. Both sides are distinctly lacking in quality and free-flowing football is at a premium at the moment. Whenever Ben Arfa gets on the ball however that changes and the Frenchman has just ran almost the length of the pitch with a mesmerising run.
52'
J. Perch enters the game and replaces C. Tioté.
51'
Early change in the second half for Newcastle. Tiote has failed to shrug off the injury caused by that heavy Mbia challenge in the first 45 minutes and is being replaced by the versatile James Perch.
50'
QPR have failed to really involve Andros Townsend so far today. The Tottenham loanee has been impressive in recent matches and really showed some good form against Arsenal last week so it's surprising that the hosts haven't really got the ball out to him more so far today.
48'
The Rs start the half the stronger once more and have already caused a fair bit of pressure on the Newcastle backline. Can they capitalise? Not this time as Hoilett's threaded pass looking for Zamora is far too strong and comfortably gathered by Elliot.
46'
S. Derry enters the game and replaces S. M'Bia.
Fábio enters the game and replaces José Bosingwa.
We're underway here. Shaun Derry has also come on here, in place of Stephane Mbia.
45' +1
Newcastle comfortably closing in on the break now. They look firmly in control and really Alan Pardew will be hoping his side can score a couple more in the second period, a real possibility if Ben Arfa can keep getting on the ball.
45'
There'll be three minutes of stoppage time here at the end of the first half.
44'
QPR are trying to get Remy into the game but the Frenchman is just being crowed out at the moment. Newcastle know he is the danger man and so they are covering his every move. The Magpies come forward once again but Cabaye's stinging long-range effort is well wide.
41'
Ben Arfa has been a constant thorn for QPR in this first half. The hosts simply can't handle him and while it may be easy to understand why Clint Hill cannot deal with the Frenchman's pace, Armand Traore is no slouch and he is being constantly roasted by the electric former Marseille man. Newcastle by far the better side as we head towards the half-time break.
39'
We had a bit of a stoppage in play as Stephane Mbia finally goes in the book for a rough challenge on Cheikh Tiote. The Magpies' goalie Rob Elliot also received treatment on an elbow injury in the time-out, also caused by Mbia. He certainly isn't holding back this afternoon!
37'
Frankly this is remarkable, even by QPR's standards. Having started so brightly and gone ahead, they have shot themselves in the foot not once, but twice and thanks to Bosingwa in particular, have committed suicide in this game and gifted it to the Magpies.
36'
S. M'Bia gets yellow.
35'
Y. Gouffran has scored a goal for Newcastle United!
Newcastle are ahead! What an awful moment for Robert Green. The former England goalkeeper has made a few clangers in his career and this ranks up as one of the most comical surely. With the ball safely in his hands, he exchanges passes far too casually with Bosingwa, who is now being booed relentlessly by his own home fans. Green then slips as he attempts to clear the ball before the onrushing Gutierrez can close it down and his scuffed kick goes straight to Yoan Gouffran on the edge of the box and he taps into the empty net. Alan Pardew is jubilant and rightly so.
30'
M. Williamson gets yellow.
First real opportunity since the equaliser for QPR. Hoilett has had an impish start on the left wing for the hosts and he quickly exchanges passes with Zamora in the box before producing a close-range effort that is straight at Rob Elliot in the Newcastle goal. He could have done a little better there, Hoilett, but he didn't have much time to set himself due to three players converging in on him.
29'
Yohan Cabaye is complaining after a nasty-looking tackle from Stephane M'Bia. Now Mike Williamson is going into the book for the Magpies for a retaliatory challenge on the QPR midfielder.
27'
QPR have barely even got out of their half since Ben Arfa's equalising penalty. They look shot of all confidence and dare I say it, rather lacking in passion or conviction? How many of these players will still be at the club when they begin next season in the Championship? Let us know on Twitter via @AdamMazrani or @GoalUK.
25'
The atmosphere is still rather sedate here at Loftus Road. All the noise is being made by the travelling Newcastle supporters and one name is being heard in particular, that of Hatem Ben Arfa.
23'
Ben Arfa is involved in everything good about Newcastle so far today. He's just had another jinking run at Bosingwa but this time the former Chelsea man defends rather better, steering the mercurial Frenchman out of play for a goal-kick.
21'
That just about sums up QPR's season doesn't it? They have been shooting themselves in the foot like that all season long. Newcastle are now really putting the pressure and Papiss Cisse has just superbly nodded into the net from a curling Debuchy cross! However, the offside flag is up and it just about looks a correct one. Extremely close though.
18'
Penalty goal scored by H. Ben Arfa for Newcastle United!
1-1! That's an outstanding penalty from Hatem Ben Arfa, who nearly takes the top of the net off with a thumping strike. Just where could Newcastle have been had Ben Arfa stayed fitter for longer this season?
On Lee Probert's decision to award the penalty, it again looks like a rather soft one. Having just saved his side with a brilliant goal-saving block, Bosingwa has become the villain of the piece when he needlessly pulls back Hatem Ben Arfa's shirt when all he has to do is shepherd the Frenchman away from goal. The winger doesn't even go down but really, the referee had no option. Lunacy from Bosingwa and Newcastle are right back in it.
16'
Newcastle almost force an equaliser but Cabaye's full-back is brilliantly blocked by Bosingwa when he looked certain to equalise and then....PENALTY to Newcastle!
14'
The atmosphere is still rather muted here at Loftus Road and it's hard not to understand why. That's only the 13th goal they have had to celebrate at their home ground this season, the lowest tally in all four divisions.
12'
Typically ironic that Remy, the man Pardew had earmarked as Demba Ba's replacement in the January transfer window, could be the man that helps send Newcastle back down to the Championship. It's still very early days though and the Magpies have just forced a corner, though from it, Yohan Cabaye nearly sends a half-volley into orbit.
11'
Y. Cabaye gets yellow.
Penalty goal scored by L. Rémy for Queens Park Rangers!
QPR are ahead and it's that man, Loic Remy who slots it home from 12 yards. The spot-kick was a rather soft one, with Mathieu Debuchy adjudged to have brought down Junior Hoilett when not only did the initial challenge look outside the box but the Canadian's fall was rather theatrical. Take nothing away from Remy though, who finished coolly. That is a disastrous start for Newcastle and a massive confidence boost for the hosts!
9'
Penalty to QPR!
7'
We've got an early stoppage here, which will hardly help the extremely slow start to this match. Jonas Gutierrez has gone down holding his face after a challenge from Jenas but the Argentina international is fine to carry on.
6'
Now the hosts have the first real sight of goal. Andros Townsend is brought down on the edge of the box and from an attractive position, Bobby Zamora can only disappointingly fire over the bar.
5'
QPR put together the first cohesive move of the match and former Newcastle player Jermaine Jenas is at the heart of it. A clever ball inside from Junior Hoilett finds the midfield inside the box but his cut-back looking for Remy is cleared by a Newcastle defender.
3'
An extremely tame start to proceedings here with both sides trading possession for the time being.
2'
An interesting side-point for today. Loic Remy starts for QPR against the team he very nearly signed for back in January before a late change in heart (and perhaps a higher wage offer?) persuaded the Frenchman to move to West London. Remy has been by far the Rs' most impressive player since the turn of the year and looks almost certain to move on in the summer....to Newcastle perhaps?
1'
Newcastle get us underway.
Straight into the teams:
QPR: Green; Bosingwa, Onuoha, Hill, Traore; Townsend, Jenas, Mbia; Hoilett, Remy, Zamora
Subs: Subs: Murphy, Derry, Park, Taarabt, Mackie, Granero, Fabio
Newcastle: Elliot; Debuchy, Williamson, Coloccini, Yanga-Mbiwa; Tiote, Cabaye, Gutierrez, Ben Arfa, Gouffran; Cisse
Subs: Harper, Simpson, Perch, Anita, Marveaux, Obertan, Campbell
This is of course QPR's final Premier League match at Loftus Road, their relegation long having been confirmed. Harry Redknapp's men have the worst home record in the division this season so perhaps it would be apt for this rather miserable campaign to go out meekly, though they will surely want to give their fans something to cheer about before the season ends and at the very least, try not to finish the season in 20th place.
Newcastle however, are still far from secure as far as their Premier League position is concerned. The Magpies have been poor all season and are currently just outside the drop zone in 17th position, just the three points above FA Cup winners Wigan. However, Alan Pardew will know that if his side can take at least a point in West London this afternoon, then a Wigan defeat at Arsenal on Tuesday night would guarantee safety.
This from our man at Loftus Road, with just under 10 minutes to go until kick-off, Tim Poole:
A round warm of applause ripples out as QPR fans' player of the year - Clint Hill - is announced. Boy is he a battler. The Players player of the year this year, meanwhile, is.... well, are... the fans! A nice gesture from the squad to the Loftus Road faithful there but I'm sure they would have taken the caveat of Premier League safety as a preference anyday.
So with just a few minutes to go until kick-off, just a reminder that you can all get involved on Twitter via me, @AdamMazrani or @GoalUK.
The players are out and we are seconds away from kick-off at Loftus Road.
Half-time here of an at times rather dull, at times rather strange and at times, rather exciting first half. Newcastle are 2-1 up and at the moment, are closing in on Premier League safety.
This from our man at Loftus Road, Tim Poole:
So Newcastle have the lead at the break and if this is the result that keeps them up, they can count themselves very, very lucky. Loic Remy put QPR ahead after Junior Hoilett was adjudged to have been brought down unfairly in the area by Mathieu Debuchy but it was all Newcastle from there. First, Jose Bosingwa was penalised for tugging Hatem Ben Arfa's shirt in thebox - with the Frenchman rocketing the ensuing spot-kick into the top corner. And then (you guessed it) Bosignwa again erred with a short backpass to Green, whose fumbled clearance made its way to Gouffran to slot home into an empty net. Are the Magpies home and dry? Let's wait and see.
The players are back out here and perhaps unsurprisingly, Bosignwa has been taken off at half-time by Harry Redknapp. He played a hand in both Newcastle goals and was getting an extremely tough reception from the home crowd. Fabio is on in his place and we're just about to get started here.
It's all over. The final whistle blows and Newcastle have held on to a 2-1 victory that should guarantee survival. It's a 20th defeat of the season for QPR and there is a rather ironic pitch invasion now at Loftus Road. Newcastle now move six points ahead of Wigan and provided the Latics fail to take all three points against Arsenal at the Emirates on Tuesday, this win makes sure that Pardew's men will be in the top flight again next season.
