Josh Clarke LIVE: "A spirited yet tentative start from both Newcastle and West Ham here at Upton Park, with little of note to report on. Hatem Ben Arfa looks the catalyst for the visitors but so far he has been forced to drop a little too deep to receive the ball, leaving Papiss Cisse pretty isolated up top. As I type, Ricardo Vaz Te has the game's first real chance, heading wide with the goal gaping - though he was offside anyway."

Gary O'Neil clips the ball into the box and the Hammers, led by former Magpie Andy Carroll, fiercely contest the aerial challenge before Fabricio Coloccini shepherds the ball towards keeper Rob Elliott.
Josh Clarke LIVE: "Good afternoon from Upton Park, where West Ham play host to a rather troubled Newcastle United outfit. Strenuously-denied reports of dressing room strife abound from St James Park, a situation not helped by the recent and morale-crushing home defeats to Sunderland and Liverpool. Alan Pardew’s side currently languish one place above the drop and, though the five-point cushion that separates themselves and 18th place Wigan looks comfortable, the Magpies will be desperate to stave off the prospect of a last-minute relegation scrap. The Hammers, meanwhile, chase the dangling carrot of a top-half finish on their return to the Premier League."
Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini returns at centre-back after a long absence following a back injury suffered in February, with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa at moved across to left-back and Danny Simpson replacing the suspended Mathieu Debuchy at right-back. Magpies manager Alan Pardew names Yoan Gouffran and Hatem Ben Arfa in attack in for the visitors, while energetic midfielder Moussa Sissoko is absent with an ankle injury. West Ham boss Sam Allardyce opts for the same team that has started their three previous games, with Ricardo Vaz Te and Matt Jarvis either side of Andy Carroll in attack and midfielder Mark Noble still absent through injury.
The referee blows the half-time whistle and the two side's leave the pitch with the score at 0-0. Neither side has created many opportunities in the first half, but Papiss Cisse controversially had a shot cleared off the goal line by Winston Reid following an excellent through ball from Yohan Cabaye after 20 minutes. The ball appeared to cross the line and it appears Alan Pardew's side were denied a goal that could have put the Newcastle well on their way to safety.
Josh Clarke at Upton Park: "A very dull 45 minutes of football here at Upton Park, with Winston Reid’s rather epic goal-line clearance from Papiss Cisse’s prod and a flare-up concerning a theatrical Jonas Gutierrez, the only two memorable incidents so far. Newcastle appear the outfit more willing to knock the ball about and make things happen but they’re being subdued by what is a very functional, if not a little bland, West Ham side."
The Magpies' defence have largely managed to deal with the aerial threat posed by West Ham's Andy Carroll although Ricardo Vaz Te headed a dangerous cross wide, and have posed a threat of their own with Hatem Ben Arfa's dangerous dribbling and long range shooting and Cabaye's eye for a pass, but go in at the break with much still to do in order to escape the threat of relegation.
Newcastle collect a point at Upton Park after a tense finish saw the Magpies forced deep into their own half amid an effective aerial bombardment from the Hammers towards the giant striker Andy Carroll. Newcastle had defended impressively until being forced back in the final few minutes, and had what looked like a goal from Papiss Cisse cleared off the goal line by Winston Reid, but the New Zealand international was impressive throughout the match alongside James Collins in the West Ham defence and by the end of the match looked the more likely winners at Upton Park. Newcastle will be relieved to claim a point but are still just three points clear of the relegation zone having played a game more than their rivals Wigan, and still have much to do to ensure their Premier League survival.
Josh Clarke at Upton Park: "A really dour first half was superseded after the break by some pretty entertaining stuff at Upton Park. West Ham certainly deserved to come away with all three points, laying siege to the Newcastle goal in the second half, with the visitors having Rob Elliot to thank for their clean sheet. The solitary point, combined with Wigan's win, leaves Newcastle in a whole lot of trouble. Yet, of more concern will be the tepid manner in which they went MIA today. Alan Pardew's side are three points above the drop zone and desperately short on confidence. It's going to be a very nervy end of the season for the Toon."
