Garde thrilled with organised Lyon

Lyon coach Remi Garde was pleased with the organised performance of his team during their 3-0 Ligue 1 win over Reims on Sunday.

An Anthony Weber own goal and strikes from Bafetimbi Gomis and Lisandro Lopez were enough to secure maximum points for Lyon.

The seven-time French league champions are a solitary point clear of Bordeaux atop of the standings with a game hand and Garde was happy with his team's performance.

"The positives things to remember are that we played a disciplined game tonight," Garde said.

"We were serious against a team which was well organised and who also caused us some troubles in our own construction of our game.

"I will take the positives from tonight of the organisation and effort of the team, the will to go forward and at the same time still being organised in the defence.

"I think we did not concede many chances, maybe a volley in the first half but after that, we contained Reims attacks whilst also trying to go forward and that was enjoyable."

French international Gomis took his league tally to five goals on Sunday and the former Saint-Etienne marksman said Lyon must now maintain their level of performance if they are to win the title.

"Maybe it's easier to lead the table," he said.

"Anyway, now we are wearing the yellow jersey at the top of the league, and it's up to us to try to stay for as long as possible at the highest in the ranking.

"We are not thinking that we will be the leaders of the championship for the rest of the season but we want to stay close to the leading pack and put ourselves in the position to win the title."

Ligue 1 wrap: Lyon go top

Lyon leapfrogged Paris Saint-Germain into top spot in Ligue 1 after they recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Reims on Sunday.

Following PSG's shock defeat at the hands of Stade Rennes on Saturday, Lyon had the chance to go top and they did thanks to an own goal from Reims defender Anthony Weber and goals from Bafetimbi Gomis and Lisandro Lopez in the second half.

Lyon hit the front on the stroke of half-time after Anthony Reveillere's cross was turned in by Weber.

The hosts increased their lead in the 73rd minute, with Gomis netting his sixth goal of the season from close range.

And the result was put beyond doubt when Lopez sent the ball past goalkeeper Kossi Agassa.

Remi Garde's side are two points clear at the summit with a game in hand.

Bordeaux moved up to second thanks to a 1-0 win at home to title rivals Marseille.

Marseille had the opportunity to go top but Yoan Gouffran's 52nd-minute goal, his second in two games, handed Bordeaux their third win in a row.

Meanwhile, Toulouse's poor form continued as they were beaten 1-0 by a resurgent Nice outfit, who are undefeated in three league fixtures.
