FULL-TIME, and in the end it was fairly comfortable for Spurs, who take a 2-0 victory. Goals from Steven Caulker and Aaron Lennon gave them the win, and their good form in the Premier League continues as they move up the table. Villa, meanwhile, have cause for worry as they slip to yet another defeat, and were by far second-best out there today. Their midfield was overrun for long periods, and both full-backs were hopelessly exposed against Bale and Lennon. Spurs will be delighted with this victory.
90' +1
We're into four minutes of stoppage time here. 2-0 Spurs, and this is sewn up.
89'
Post! Spurs hit the post through Bale! That's unlucky, and a great save from Guzan.
87'
A. Townsend enters the game and replaces A. Lennon.
86'
Standing ovation for Lennon as he's taken off. He's been superb today, and a goal was a just reward. Andros Townsend comes on.
83'
It's all petering out a bit now. Villa know this game is gone, Spurs know this game is won. All this is barring a minor miracle, obviously.
82'
G. Sigurðsson enters the game and replaces C. Dempsey.
81'
Oh, just wide from Bale from outside the box. Great shot there.
78'
Bad news for Villa as Joe Bennett is stretchered off, so the away side are down to 10 men.
75'
Cracking chance there for Dempsey, who heads wide from six yards when he could have easily scored.

Description
74'
B. Bannan enters the game and replaces B. Holman.
More subs for both sides, with Emmanuel Adebayor making an appearance up front.
73'
K. Walker gets yellow.
70'
'Handball!' say Spurs. 'No!' says the referee.
68'
E. Adebayor enters the game and replaces J. Defoe.
67'
A. Lennon has scored a goal for Tottenham Hotspur! Assist by C. Dempsey.
GOAL!!!! It's 2-0 Spurs! Lennon cuts in from the right, and strikes one coolly past Brad Guzan right along the turf. Spurs two up, that might be game over for Villa.
66'
C. N'Zogbia enters the game and replaces F. Delph.
D. Bent enters the game and replaces M. Albrighton.
65'
Villa looking to inject some pace and attacking power into their game, as Darren Bent and Charles N'Zogbia both come on.
61'
That took a massive deflection off Steven Caulker, and as Defoe's shot was going wide, the defender might be given that one. One for the Dubious Goals Committee perhaps?
58'
S. Caulker has scored a goal for Tottenham Hotspur! Assist by J. Defoe.
GOAL!!! It's 1-0 Spurs! A corner comes in, the ball pinballs around, and there is Defoe to hammer home. They deserve that.
57'
K. El Ahmadi gets yellow.
Card for El Ahmadi, who scythes down Aaron Lennon as he's about to get into full flow.
54'
Oh, Jermain. That was so close. He gets the ball and lets fly with a shot outside the box that goes just wide.
53'
Worth noting that cross to Benteke came from a Lloris error, as well. The Frenchman has looked good, but that was a bad moment for him.
51'
That, ladies and gentleman, is a golden chance. Benteke has a free header in the box. He's got the freedom of Tottenham, yet contrives to send his header wide of the post. That should have been 1-0 Villa.
49'
Aaron Lennon is full of tricks and step-overs, but does one too many and the ball goes out.
47'
J. Bennett gets yellow.
Early chance for Benteke, but it's straight at Lloris.
46'
Oh, we're back! The second half begins, and it's Spurs who get it going.
45' +1
HALF-TIME, and it’s 0-0, but Spurs should probably be in the lead. They’ve had some very good chances, particularly through lone striker Jermain Defoe, who has looked decent but been perhaps slightly wasteful. Gareth Bale has been everywhere, and has a lot of space on the left, but has often not put in very good crosses, which is a shame for his forwards. Villa, meanwhile, have had a couple of good chances of their own, but have been second-best in the half. They will be hoping for an improvement, and all the while this game is deadlocked, they might just fancy nicking a goal.
45'
One minute stoppage time in the first period.
44'
Great punch there from Lloris, who has looked in good form in goal.
42'
William Gallas came over all Jackie Chan on Benteke then, with a high kick into the striker's back.
41'
Getting towards the end of the first half here. Spurs have had the best chances, but haven't quite made them count. Well, as it's still 0-0, they clearly haven't made them count.
38'
That's a great cross from Aaron Lennon, but it just evades the sliding Defoe, who isn't quite tall enough. Guzan gathers.
36'
Villa have a chance thanks to a through-ball to Agbonlahor, but Lloris is there to smother the threat.
34'
A free kick comes in, and Jan Vertonghen is there with a shot that he puts well over the bar.
32'
Corner Spurs, but it's high, wide and not very handsome from Bale, who's been everywhere but not produced that much.
29'
Defoe gets the ball just outside the box, but shoots wide with his left foot under pressure from Ron Vlaar.
27'
F. Delph gets yellow.
Yellow card for Fabian Delph after fouling Mousa Dembele.
26'
Free kick Spurs, and here's Bale. But, it's cleared.
23'
Finally, Villa have got hold of the ball and are knocking it about a bit. They haven't got out of their half, but it's progress nonetheless.
20'
Spurs started quickly, but neither side has created another chance after Defoe blazed over early on.
17'
It's all Bale at the moment, as the poor lamb goes down holding his lower back. He took a knock there, but is quickly up.
14'
Seriously, Gareth Bale has so much space on the left. Where has Lowton gone?
13'
Not like that, Gareth, as he sends a cross-field ball straight out of play with his right foot. Whoops.
10'
Replays suggest Bale dived, and the Villa fans are furious.
9'
Brad Guzan could have been called for a foul after rushing out of his goal, but isn't.
6'
That's an absolute beast of a free kick from Bale, as it fizzes into the box. Alas, no-one can get a toe on the ball.
5'
Gareth Bale is already having a lot of joy down Spurs' left. Matthew Lowton is already having problems.
2'
Yes Hugo! He's out confidently to claim the ball in the air.
Oh, Defoe should score! Cross comes in from the left, and Jermain is there, but his right-foot shot goes over horribly.
1'
Here we go! Villa get the first half underway.
Well that didn't take long. Spurs come rampaging forward within the first 30 seconds, and Gareth Bale puts his shot wide.
Good afternoon, and welcome to Goal.com’s LIVE! text commentary on this Premier League clash between Tottenham and Aston Villa. I’m Chris Teale, and it’s my pleasure to be taking you through this one.
Well, after something of a slow start, Spurs have won three in a row and are now unbeaten in five. Their last game was highly entertaining 3-2 victory over Manchester United, and they have real aspirations of bringing Champions League football back to White Hart Lane.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa have had some problems this season under new manager Paul Lambert, and have only secured one win all season. With five points from their opening six games, they sit in 15th.
How are the teams looking? Let’s start with Tottenham: Lloris; Walker, Gallas, Caulker, Vertonghen; Dembele, Sandro; Lennon, Dempsey, Bale; Defoe. Subs: Friedel, Dawson, Huddlestone, Townsend, Sigurdsson, Falque, Adebayor.
Big news comes from Spurs, who bring in Hugo Lloris for his first Premier League start in goal in place of Brad Friedel, whose run of 310 consecutive league appearances is brought to an end.
Like the Great Escape, the teams are in the tunnel. Unlike the Great Escape, they then move out onto the pitch at White Hart Lane, led by the officials.
Meanwhile, Christian Benteke continues up front for Villa alongside Gabriel Agbonlahor in what is a rather young side for the Villains.
That turned into a decent game in the end. Anyway, thank you very much for joining us at Goal.com for this LIVE! text commentary. I've been Chris Teale, and for those of you who are interested, I'm back on the main LIVE! blog at 7pm for El Clasico. Until then, stay safe, and I'll see you soon.
