Arsenal take the kick-off and we are underway!
Welcome ladies and gents to Goal.com's play-by-play coverage of Manchester City vs Arsenal LIVE from the Etihad Stadium. I'm Husmukh Kerai and I'm the man to take you through all the action from this afternoon's match live!
Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen take no part in today's match due to illness allowing Laurent Koscielny to make his first start of the season, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain makes way from the starting line-up and is replaced by Aaron Ramsey.
Goal.com's Greg Stobart reports live from the Eithad: "Good afternoon from the Etihad Stadium where defending champions Manchester City will be looking to respond to United’s win with a victory of their own against Liverpool. Roberto Mancini is in deep conversation on the touchline with his assistant David Platt as the team warm-up ahead of kick-off, having decided to leave Carlos Tevez on the bench and start with Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko in attack. Speaking to some Arsenal fans here, they fancy their chances on the counter-attack this afternoon with the pace and skill of Gervinho, Cazorla and Podolski."
The Premier League champions boast one heck of a home record. In their last 31 home league matches Mancini's men are unbeaten, with 29 victories and only two draws. Arsenal meanwhile have only lost one of their last 10 on the road.
What a match we have here my friends. Yaya Toure vs Abou Diaby in the battle of the midfield behemoths should be tasty. Pint-sized Spaniards David Silva and Santi Cazorla will be trying to ochestrate their sides build-up play while Sergio Aguero and Lukas Podolski will hope to provide the killer finish. Less than ten minutes until kick-off!
The players are in the tunnel and the atmosphere at the Etihad is building very nicely.
Mikel Arteta captains Arsene Wenger's side today in the absence of Thomas Vermaelen.
Greg Stobart reports from the Etihad: "The teams are out at the Etihad Stadium and we are moments from getting underway as the Arsenal players high five each other in the centre circle."
There will be a period of reflection before the match, for the loss of two local police officers. Both sides are also wearing black armbands as a tribute to the two women.
Greg Stobart reports from the Etihad: "It’s half-time at the Etihad Stadium and Manchester City go in at the break with a 1-0 advantage thanks to Joleon Lescott’s 40th minute header. Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone will accept the blame after getting caught under David Silva’s corner when he came off his line to claim the ball. The scoreline is harsh on the Gunners, who have been the better side on the ball but Gervinho and Lukas Podolski have both lacked composure when presented with chances."
FULL TIME: Manchester city 1-1 Arsenal
Laurent Koscielny's second half strike saves a point for the Gunners following an impressive display after Manchester City took the lead against the run of play through Joleon Lescott. Mancini's men were unconvincing as Arsenal become the third side to take a point away from the Etihad in their last 32 home league matches.
