Chile´s Vidal to play in defence

9 September 2012 18:56

Chile coach Claudio Borghi is considering moving star midfielder Arturo Vidal into a more defensive role for their clash against Colombia.

Borghi's side sit second in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying and will be hoping that victory on Tuesday in Santiago will see them continue their good start.

And Borghi has defended his potential change of role for outstanding midfielder Vidal, which is seen as a controversial tactical decision by some supporters of Chile.

"There is nothing to discuss," he told Tuttosport. "I need a free (player) and Arturo gave me his availability (for the role)."

Vidal has confirmed his willingness to play where he is needed.

The Juventus midfielder said: "I'm available. I'll play where I'll be most useful."

The past two years have been hugely fruitful for the 25-year-old enforcer, as he proved a key component in Juve's Serie A-winning campaign last season, and he now finds himself a regular starter for both club and country.
