Getafe vs. Real Madrid  2 - 1

Coentrao swore at me, says referee

27 August 2012 15:32

Referee Miguel Angel Perez Lasa has revealed that Fabio Coentrao was shown a red card for swearing during Real Madrid's shock loss to Getafe.

The Portugal international did not feature in Madrid's 2-1 defeat in La Liga on Sunday, but was dismissed in the closing stages of the encounter after insulting the match official.

"In the 88th minute, the player (5) Fabio Alexandre Da Silva Coentrao was sent off for the following reason: he contacted me when the game was halted, and insulted me when I stood next to him by calling me a 'son of a whore'," Perez Lasa wrote in his official report, according to Marca.

Coentrao's dismissal will not have any consequences for Wednesday's second leg of the Spanish Supercopa against Barcelona, however, as a suspension will only be valid for La Liga.

Madrid were beaten 3-2 in the first leg at Camp Nou last week.

Pepe ruled out of Getafe clash

26 August 2012 10:35

Real Madrid defender Pepe has been forced out of his side's clash against Getafe after being concussed against Valencia.

The Portugal star was involved in a clash of heads with club captain Iker Casillas as Mauricio Pellegrino's side took a corner in their La Liga opener last weekend and left the pitch soon after.

He was subsequently made to miss Thursday's 3-2 loss to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup first leg through concussion, but has since begun full training and was widely expected to be fit in time for the Madrid derby.

Raul Albiol started in his place against the Catalans, and the Spain international, along with Raphael Varane, will compete for a place in Jose Mourinho's starting line-up at the Alfonso Perez.

Meanwhile, there is no place in the squad for duo Ricardo Carvalho or Kaka, who are widely expected to leave the Santiago Bernabeu before the transfer window closes on Friday.

Pepe resumes training

25 August 2012 10:38

Real Madrid defender Pepe is in line to return for his team's clash against Getafe after resuming full training.

The Portugal international sustained a head injury in Real's 1-1 La Liga draw against Valencia last Sunday and consequently missed the 3-2 loss to Barcelona in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup.

Nevertheless, the defender has now been given the green light to resume regular training action and is expected to make his comeback against Getafe.

Pepe's return to the match squad means that Raul Albiol is likely to drop to the bench again after taking the former Porto star's place against Barca.

Madrid will be looking to record their first victory of the 2012/13 campaign on Sunday after failing to beat Valencia and Barca in their first two competitive fixtures of the season.
