Eredivisie wrap: Ajax win again as PSV woes continue

11 March 2012 22:10

Ajax stretched their winning run to six matches with a 3-0 victory over RKC Waalwijk in the Eredivisie on Sunday, while PSV's woes continued.

Strikes from Jan Vertonghen, Siem de Jong and Lorenzo Ebicilio secured all three points for Ajax in front of more than 50,000 fans at the Amsterdam Arena.

Vertonghen opened the scoring in the 27th minute, the RKC defence failing to deal with a curving corner into the danger area, allowing the Belgian to convert from close range.

De Jong made it two on 55 minutes when he was quickest to react to a poor back-pass from Adil Auassar and coolly rounded Jeroen Zoet before slotting home.

Ajax nabbed a third in the 90th minute as Ebicilio netted his fourth in two games. The winger was first to react to a dangerous cross from Dmitri Bulykin, and calmly netted past a helpless Zoet.

AZ Alkmaar are three points clear of Ajax at the top of the table after two second half goals gave them a 2-0 win at De Graafschap.

After a goalless first half at the Stadion De Vijverberg, Rasmus Elm gave AZ the lead four minutes after the break before Erik Falkenburg wrapped up the win with a second in injury time.

Elsewhere, PSV's horror run continued as they were beaten 3-1 on the road against NAC Breda.

After losing 6-2 to Twente and 4-2 to Valencia in the last week, PSV needed a positive result, but instead went home empty handed thanks to two goals from Santi Kolk and another from Anthony Lurling.

Georginio Wijnaldum had earlier given the visitors the lead after just five minutes, and both sides finished with 10 men after the dismissals of Stanislav Manolev and Robbert Schilder.

Twente also saw their hopes of going top suffer a blow after losing 3-1 away to NEC Nijmegen.

Lasse Schone gave NEC the lead from the penalty spot just before half time, and further strikers from Kevin Conboy and Genero Zeefuik ensured that Glynor Plet's 77th minute effort for Twente was just a consolation.

Feyenoord missed the chance to make up ground on the leaders after they were held 1-1 at home against Utrecht.

Otman Bakkal had given Feyenoord a sixth-minute lead, but Cedric van der Gun's strike just before the hour mark ensured Utrecht would grab a share of the points.

The hosts also finished with 10 men after Miquel Nelom received his second yellow card in the 77th minute.
