Bartra signs new Barca deal

18 March 2014 13:38

Barcelona centre-back Marc Bartra has committed his future to the club by penning a contract extension until June 2017.

The 23-year-old has risen through the ranks at Camp Nou and made his first-team debut as a substitute against Atletico Madrid in the 2009-2010 season.

Bartra has become an established part of Gerardo Martino's squad this term, starting 11 La Liga matches for the Spanish champions and featuring from the bench on three further occasions.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Marc Bartra has renewed his contract with FC Barcelona until June 30, 2017.

"The centre-back signed (his new deal) on Tuesday at a ceremony held at the club."

Bartra could be handed more first-team opportunities next term, with Barca captain Carles Puyol having confirmed he will leave at the end of the season.

Barcelona are currently third in La Liga, four points adrift of Real Madrid, with the rivals set to meet at the Bernabeu on Sunday.
