Kaboul ban overturned

11 March 2014 17:03

Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul has had his red card against Chelsea on Sunday, and subsequent one-match ban, overturned.

Kaboul was dismissed by referee Michael Oliver just before the hour at Stamford Bridge after bringing down Samuel Eto'o inside the penalty area.

Tottenham, who were 1-0 down at the time of the sending off, struggled to contain their hosts with 10 men, and went on to lose 4-0 after Eden Hazard scored the resulting penalty and Demba Ba bagged a late brace.

The White Hart Lane outfit subsequently appealed Oliver’s decision, and a Football Association (FA) statement released on Tuesday confirmed the Frenchman will not serve a suspension.

"Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today, a claim of wrongful dismissal concerning Tottenham Hotspur's Younes Kaboul was upheld," read the statement.

"Kaboul was dismissed for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity during the game against Chelsea on 8 March 2014.

"The player's one-match suspension has therefore been withdrawn with immediate effect."

The FA's decision means Kaboul will be available to Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood for their north London derby against Arsenal on Sunday.
