Moyes not planning further United arrivals

31 January 2014 16:23

David Moyes is not planning to bring in any more players in the January transfer window after securing the services of Juan Mata.

United had been linked with moves for a midfielder and defender ahead of Friday's deadline, but Moyes remains adamant that any further rebuilding at Old Trafford will take place at the end of the season.

There have been departures from the defending Premier League champions, though, with Wilfried Zaha signing a loan deal at Cardiff City, while Fabio da Silva has signed permanently with the Welsh club.

But Moyes is happy with the options at his disposal, and delighted to have been able to bring in Mata from Chelsea.

"There's no disappointment (that there will be no more transfers)," the United manager said ahead of Saturday's trip to Stoke City. "I said at the start that we wouldn't do much business in January. There's no one reason for that.

"He's (Mata) everything I thought he was. He's a terrific footballer, a good lad to work with and he's settled in quickly.

"He played well in the game (against Cardiff), which was important because we wanted him to make a difference straight away. I'm wary that we need to give him time to settle in and not expect too much too soon, but I was impressed with his first game."

The Scot also explained the reasons behind Zaha's loan move, with Moyes believing that first-team football will help him develop more than playing for United's reserves.

"We felt Cardiff was the right choice for him," he added. "Hopefully he will go and get those games, show what he can do in the Premier League and be ready to come back to us at the end of the season."
