Seedorf appointed Milan coach

16 January 2014 12:55

Former Netherlands international Clarence Seedorf has been appointed first-team coach of Milan on a two-and-a-half year contract.

Milan's official Twitter profile posted a picture of Seedorf signing a contract with vice president and chief executive Adriano Galliani on Thursday.

And the Serie A club confirmed in a statement that the Dutchman had put pen to paper on a deal that runs until June 30 2016.

The 37-year-old will begin his managerial career at San Siro, taking charge of a club he spent 10 years at as a player between 2002 and 2012.

Seedorf, who watched Milan's 3-1 win over Spezia in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday, will assume control with the club 11th in Serie A.

His appointment had been expected soon after predecessor Massimiliano Allegri was dismissed on Monday, with the Italian having been under pressure for much of the season.

Having confirmed the end of his playing career on Tuesday, Seedorf, who had been playing at Botafogo in Brazil, will take charge of his first Milan game on Sunday against Hellas Verona.
