Motta signs new PSG deal

21 February 2014 14:12

Thiago Motta has penned a new deal at Paris Saint-Germain until 2016, the Ligue 1 champions have confirmed.

The midfielder's deal had been due to expire in 2015, but he has now committed to the club for an extra year.

"I am very happy to continue following my dreams with Paris Saint-Germain," he said. "I want to help the club reach their ambitious goals, both in France and in Europe."

Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi added: "We are very proud to extend Thiago Motta's stay at the club.

"He is an exceptional player on the pitch and an elegant man off it. He symbolises Paris Saint-Germain's great ambitions."

The Brazil-born Italy international moved to the French capital from Inter in January 2012 and has since made 48 league appearances, scoring five goals.

PSG are currently on course to retain the Ligue 1 title - sitting five points clear of closest rivals Monaco - and Motta has started 21 of their 25 league matches this season.

Laurent Blanc's men visit Toulouse in the league on Sunday.
