Hughes: Crouch can break 100-goal barrier

14 February 2014 20:45

Mark Hughes believes Stoke City striker Peter Crouch can join an exclusive group of players and score 100 goals in the Premier League.

Crouch has netted 86 times in England's top flight and Hughes is backing the forward to reach the milestone.

Hughes - scorer of 63 Premier League goals himself - claims that he has always rated Crouch throughout his career, but can now see his quality on a daily basis.

"I have previously admired him from afar and working with him now I have to say his qualities are even better than I thought," Hughes told the Stoke Sentinel.

"I'd like to think he can make 100. He's an experienced player and 86 Premier League goals takes some doing.

"He's playing exceptionally well at the moment and did well against Southampton to get his goal, and again against Swansea."

While former England man Crouch is chasing his Premier League century, fellow striker John Guidetti wants more first-team action after brief cameos at the Britannia Stadium.

The 21-year-old joined Stoke on loan from Manchester City in January and made his home debut in the final 30 minutes of the 1-1 draw with Swansea City on Wednesday.

"I enjoyed it a lot, it was a moment that I have been waiting for to come on and play in front of those incredible supporters for the first time," Guidetti told the club's official website.

"I have absolutely 100 per cent trust in the manager and in the team, and I know that whatever the manager's decision is, it is always going to be in the best interests of the club.

"If he puts me in to play from the start then I will give 100 per cent, if he puts me on to play just the final five minutes then I'll also give 100 per cent in that time too.

"I'm desperate to do well here and to help the club win as many matches as possible. I'm blessed to be here, I'm very happy, what can I say?"
