Meulensteen issues Fulham rallying call

5 February 2014 16:50

Under-fire Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen has urged his side to stick together despite their wretched run of form.

The Craven Cottage outfit are bottom of the Premier League table after losing four successive top-flight fixtures.

And they were dumped out of the FA Cup by third-tier strugglers Sheffield United on Tuesday, losing a fourth-round replay in front of their home fans after extra time.

Meulensteen admitted Fulham had hit "rock bottom", but wants his players to keep fighting for survival.

"If you talk about this game and ask 'have we hit rock bottom?', we probably have," the Dutchman said.

"If you say that, then it cannot get any worse, it can only get better.

"The most important thing is that we don't lose our togetherness, because that's the only way to get out of this mess.

"If you start falling apart from within, then you start having an even bigger problem, and that cannot happen.

"We know it's going to be difficult. We know we've got 14 games ahead of us and we need to really get our act together sooner rather than later."

Meulensteen, who took over from compatriot Martin Jol in December, added that he had "no worries" about his relationship with owner Shahid Khan despite the club's poor form.
