Sherwood happy with strikers, backs Soldado

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood insists he is not regretting a failure to sign a striker in January and has backed Roberto Soldado to come good.

Strikers Emmanuel Adebayor, Roberto Soldado and Jermain Defoe have accounted for just 11 of Spurs' 31 Premier League goals this season, with England striker Defoe heading for Toronto in less than four weeks' time.

Dimitar Berbatov was linked with a return to White Hart Lane in January, but opted for Monaco, with Harry Kane likely to provide back-up once Defoe departs.

Adebayor's five goals have come in just eight league games this term after being brought in from the cold by Sherwood - who expects Soldado to break his slump sooner rather than later, having scored just once from open play in the top flight this term and again failed to fire in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Hull City.

When asked if he regretted a lack of January business, Sherwood replied: "No. We're alright with the strikers.

"It's just a matter of time before Robbie hits the target again and he starts scoring and he gets on a run.

"I thought he was alright (on Saturday). I thought his hold-up play was good. He had a few opportunities, a few volleys there which sometimes fly in, sometimes they don't.

"I'm not putting any pressure on him and he's not putting any pressure on himself. He's a good trainer, he's just got to stick at it.

"We've all been professional footballers but we have and we know what it is like. You have just got to stick at it. What can you do?

"It don't just happen. You have got to keep training hard and working hard at it and then it will turn it round. It always does.

"I'm sure it's not the first barren spell he's had."
