Eredivisie Wrap: RKC shock PSV, Twente close gap at the top

2 February 2014 19:37

Evander Sno's brace handed RKC Waalwijk a shock 2-0 win over PSV as they moved of the foot of the Eredivisie table on Sunday.

The hosts secured just their fifth league win of the season, propelling them from the bottom of the league to 14th, courtesy of Sno's second-half double.

The former Feyenoord and Ajax midfielder now has four goals in his last four top-flight matches as PSV failed to keep a clean sheet away from home for a 24th league game running.

At the summit, Twente took full advantage of dropped points from Ajax and Vitesse by beating Cambuur 3-1 at De Grolsch Veste on Sunday.

Michel Jansen's men had to come from behind to secure a triumph that moved them to within four points of leaders Ajax.

Ramon Leeuwin handed the visitors the lead from the spot after 25 minutes, but the home side dominated the second half.

However, Luc Castaignos registered a sixth goal in his last seven Eredivisie matches to level the scores before Shadrach Eghan put the hosts ahead.

Rasmus Bengtsson then made amends for conceding the first-half penalty by wrapping up the win as Twente extended their unbeaten league run to nine matches.

The win came after Ajax were held 1-1 at Utrecht, with Frank de Boer's side having played a game more than Twente.

Daley Blind put the holders ahead at the Stadion Galgenwaard but Steve de Ridder gained the hosts a point as Utrecht ended a four-game Eredivisie losing streak.

NEC picked up an important point in their fight against relegation - drawing 1-1 with Go Ahead Eagles.

Michael Higdon put his side ahead after five minutes with an eighth league goal of the season but Deniz Turuc levelled to spare Go Ahead a third straight league defeat.

While the draw extended NEC's unbeaten league run to three matches, it was the 21st consecutive Eredivisie home match in which they conceded a goal - setting a new club record.
