Allegri demands clinical Milan

26 September 2013 01:10

Massimiliano Allegri warned his Milan side they must take their chances after grabbing a late point in a 3-3 draw with Bologna on Wednesday.

Milan were two goals behind going into the closing minutes of the match but produced another late comeback, having snatched a draw at Torino with a 96th-minute Mario Balotelli penalty two weeks' previous.

Although Robinho and Ignazio Abate earned Allegri's side a point with strikes in the 89th and 90th minute, the coach admitted he was disappointed with his players' wastefulness in front of goal.

It is the third time this season Milan have needed late goals to avoid defeat and the 46-year-old knows that needs to change if they are to challenge at the top of Serie A.

"It was a good game for the group as a whole but we missed a lot of chances," he told the club's official website. "We played well and we have to continue down this road.

"I can’t criticise the team in terms of game play. Both against Napoli and again here tonight we had a lot of chances. We have to be more careful and work hard.

"These are the players we have and we have to try and get the win that would allow us to see the situation in a different light.

"The important thing is to keep on getting into the adversary’s penalty area as we’re doing. If we keep on creating these situations, it means we’re creating problems for the defence.

"A single point from these two games given how we’ve played means that we have to work more as in these moments, we’re paying for every mistake.”

The draw with Bologna leaves Milan 12th in Serie A, 10 points behind leaders Roma after just one win from their opening five games.
