AFC Cup: Kitchee 1 Al Faisaly 2

17 September 2013 17:41

Al Faisaly gained the advantage in their AFC Cup quarter-final tie with Kitchee after winning the first leg 2-1 in Hong Kong on Tuesday.

The visitors, who won the competition in 2005 and 2006, broke the deadlock midway through the first half courtesy of Tulio Souza, only for Alex Akande's deflected effort to level matters a minute after the interval.

Ra'ed Fraeh's strike after 59 minutes proved decisive as the away side held on despite Mohammad Khamees' dismissal.

Midfielder Souza opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a well-taken finish, meeting a through-ball from Fraeh and lifting the ball past Wang Zhenpeng to silence the home crowd.

Kitchee hit back after the break when Akande got a loose ball under control on the edge of the penalty area and fired towards goal, with his effort going in via Ibrahim Zawahreh's unintentional touch.

It was the Nigerian forward's first goal for the club on his full debut, however, his delight was short-lived as the visitors went back ahead 12 minutes later.

Fraeh fired home from the edge of the penalty area after some neat build-up play from the Jordanian side.

Al Faisaly had to survive the final 30 minutes with 10-men after Khamees was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence when the ball struck his arm.

The second leg of the tie takes place on September 24 in Amman.
