Ancelotti confirms Bale set for debut

13 September 2013 13:17

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed world-record signing Gareth Bale will make his club debut at Villarreal on Saturday.

Bale – who signed for Real from Premier League outfit Tottenham for a reported fee of £86million earlier this month – has made just one competitive appearance this season.

That was for Wales on Tuesday, as the 24-year-old came off the bench in his country's 3-0 FIFA World Cup qualifying defeat to Serbia in Cardiff.

Bale has battled a foot injury over the past month and doubts raged over whether he would be fit enough to feature for the Spanish giants at El Madrigal.

But Ancelotti confirmed on Friday that Bale will play some part in the fixture, although not definitely from the start.

Ancelotti said: "Bale will travel to Villarreal and will play. I'm not sure if he will start or come off from the bench.

"Bale arrived without doing a normal pre-season, but his physical condition isn't bad.

"He doesn't have any problem with injuries, he is excited and is very motivated."

Much interest will be placed on how Ancelotti uses Bale, with the Welshman primarily used on the left for Tottenham, the position Cristiano Ronaldo often plays for the Spanish giants.

Ancelotti is likely to keep Ronaldo on the left though, saying that Bale would play on the opposite side.

"He will almost certainly play on the right," he added.
