Klopp signs new Dortmund deal

30 October 2013 13:19

Jurgen Klopp has signed an extended contract with Borussia Dortmund, keeping him at the Bundesliga club until 2018.

The 46-year-old took over at Signal Iduna Park in 2008 and led the club to consecutive German league titles in 2011 and 2012.

Dortmund also reached the UEFA Champions League final last term, but they were ultimately beaten by Bayern Munich, who also took the Bundesliga crown back with a crushing 25-point margin.

Klopp recently revealed he rejected the advances of Chelsea and Manchester City in the close-season and has further affirmed his commitment to Dortmund with the new deal.

"It is an honour that one or more top international club thinks that we do good work," he told the club's official website.

"But I am honestly not the type of person that wonders whether the grass is greener on the other side.

"It is no empty phrase when I say: In life, it is important that you're in the right place at the right time.

"And Dortmund is the perfect place for me."

Dortmund have made a superb start to new season, despite the loss of star attacking midfielder Mario Gotze to Bayern.

Klopp's men sit second in the Bundesliga and are top of a Champions Legaue group that also contains Arsenal and Napoli.

The former Mainz boss is due to join Ottmar Hitzfeld as the only other Dortmund manager to spend six years in charge of the club, as he targets further success in both domestic and European competition.
