Milan playmaker Kaka believes he can return to the top of his game once he moves back towards a more central position.
The Brazilian made his first UEFA Champions League appearance since returning to Milan from Real Madrid in their 1-1 draw against Barcelona at San Siro on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old was used on the left of a five-man midfield in as Massimiliano Allegri sought to stifle the Spanish champions.
While the midfielder was aware of the importance of defensive stability against Barcelona, he feels he will continue to regain his best form as he moves further infield.
"Having played plenty of times against Barcelona I knew the importance of the flanks. Tactically it needed to be a match of sacrifices," he said.
"I still need to find my best form. The manager knows where I want to play but every now and again you need to make these sacrifices."
The draw keeps Milan second in Group H, two points behind Barcelona, going into the final three games of the group.
Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo and goalkeeper Marco Amelia both praised the impact of the Brazilian and backed him to play a role in the team's Serie A and Champions League campaigns as he regains his fitness.
"Kaka made a great contribution in terms of quality." said Montolivo.
"Barcelona were advancing with their usual ball possession, so we could steal the ball only very deep but Kaka gave us the chance to counter attack from there with his runs. I'm sure he will become a key player for us."
Amelia added: "I think Kaka's performance was the most important thing of the night for us. It's good for the whole environment here, it's good for the rest of the squad, for the fans and it's good for him.
"He is still is a great champion. I don't think there is much difference between the player he was here at Milan before leaving and the player he is now. He just needs more stamina to be able to play like that for the whole 90 minutes."
