La Liga Wrap: Sevilla´s away woes continue, Getafe up to fifth

20 October 2013 23:35

Sevilla's winless run away from home in La Liga stretched to 21 games as they let a two-goal lead slip in their 2-2 draw at Real Valladolid.

Unai Emery's side got off to an excellent start on Sunday at Jose Zorrilla as Carlos Bacca fired a powerful strike across the goal and into the far side of the net in just the second minute.

New Spain international Alberto Moreno capped off a memorable couple of weeks in the 31st minute as he latched on to Juan Cala's header and hit a half-volley into the bottom corner for his first Sevilla goal.

The visitors controlled the game against 19th-placed Valladolid, but an 81st-minute Manucho header was followed three minutes later by an excellent Patrick Ebert free-kick, meaning Sevilla will go 13 months without an away win in La Liga.

Getafe moved up to fifth place in the table thanks to their 2-0 victory against 10-man Granada at Nuevos de los Carmenes, with the visitors recording their fourth victory from five matches.

It was not a good day for Granada's centre-backs as Pape Diakhate received a red card in the 32nd minute, but the Senegalese player's second yellow should have been given to team-mate Allan Nyom.

After the break, Diakhate's initial partner at the back, Jeison Murillo, had a moment to forget too, as he sliced Pedro Mosquera's low right-wing cross past his own goalkeeper, before Pedro Leon completed the win in the 55th minute with a powerful strike from 18 yards out.

In Andalucia, 10-man Elche picked up an historic 2-1 victory at Real Betis.

Manu Del Moral, who is incidentally on loan from Betis' bitter rivals Sevilla, opened the scoring for the visitors as he headed Domingo Cisma's cross past Guillermo Sara.

Fidel then doubled their lead in the 34th minute as he cut on to his left foot on the edge of the area and fired a low shot into the bottom corner, while Jorge Molina pulled one back with a header from an offside position.

Cisma put Elche's lead in doubt two minutes into the second period as he harshly received a second yellow card, but Fran Escriba's team held on for their third league win in a row and a first triumph at Betis since 1963.

Almeria and Rayo Vallecano played out an entertaining encounter at Estadio de los Juegos Mediterraneos, but the hosts ended the game empty-handed as the Madrid club secured a 1-0 win.

Atletico Madrid loanee Saul Niguez was sent off for two bookable offence, but that did not stop Rayo claiming the win as Alejandro Galvez's wonderfully-struck free-kick found the top corner of the goal 12 minutes from time, moving them up to 14th.
