Bury´s Blackwell sacked

14 October 2013 12:33

League Two strugglers Bury have sacked manager Kevin Blackwell in response to their poor start to the season.

Blackwell was appointed as Bury manager in September last year but failed to arrest their slide as they were relegated from the third tier of English football.

Fortunes for the 54-year-old did not improve in the current campaign though, with Bury having won just two of their first 11 League Two matches.

That run of form sees them 21st in the table and after Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Morecambe – Bury's seventh match in a row without win – the club's board acted to remove Blackwell.

A brief statement on the club's official website read: "Bury FC have terminated the contract of manager Kevin Blackwell with immediate effect."

Blackwell – who previously has managed Leeds United, Sheffield United and Luton Town – won just 13 of his 57 matches in charge of Bury.
