Cabaye happy with Remy recall

8 October 2013 13:47

Yohan Cabaye believes that Loic Remy will give France another dimension after he was recalled for the games against Australia and Finland.

Remy has found his feet at Newcastle United, scoring five goals in his last three Premier League games for Alan Pardew's side.

The on-loan striker's form prompted Didier Deschamps to draft him into the France squad for their friendly against Australia on Friday night and Les Bleus' final FIFA World Cup qualifier against Finland next Tuesday.

And midfielder Cabaye, who was also recalled by Deschamps, is looking forward to playing alongside his Newcastle team-mate on the international stage.

"He's scored important goals - twice again (on Saturday) and he helped us to win the game so of course he deserves to be in the France squad," Cabaye told NUFC TV.

"For me it's fantastic because I love to play forward and with him, it's so easy because he's quick.

"He can move very fast and very cleverly so it's very, very important for us. He gives us another way to play."

France are level on points with Spain at the top of Group I, but the world and European champions have a game in hand.

Despite that, Cabaye already has one eye on the World Cup in Brazil.

"It's going to be very important because the World Cup is not far now," he added.

"We have to play the last qualifying game; we are sure of the play-offs now but we never know and we're going to have to beat Finland at home and to wish for something.

"Now it's going to be very important to play well with Newcastle from the next game until the end to hopefully be in the squad for the World Cup."
