Casillas wants to retire at Real

3 October 2013 10:12

Iker Casillas has no intention of leaving Real Madrid, despite falling out of favour under consecutive managers at the Bernabeu.

The Spain captain failed to find favour under Jose Mourinho last season as the pair apparently rowed over Casillas' friendliness with his international team-mates at Real's great rivals, Barcelona.

Mourinho's close-season departure and Carlo Ancelotti's arrival in the Madrid dug-out was expected to result in Casillas' resumption as the club's first-choice goalkeeper, but he has not been able to usurp Diego Lopez, signed from Sevilla in January.

Ancelotti has confirmed that Casillas will be his goalkeeper of choice in the UEFA Champions League this season and the 32-year-old made his first full Madrid appearance since January 20 on Wednesday as Madrid strolled past Copenhagen 4-0.

And despite having only lasted 15 minutes of their Champions League opener against Galatasaray before suffering an injury, Casillas maintains that he is happy to feature in Europe, and insists that he has not entertained thoughts of departing his boyhood club.

He said: "We all win, I think it is phenomenal. I see it on the positive side. Diego wins, I win, Real Madrid win.

"We're talking about a guy (Lopez) who is performing at the highest level. And it makes you work harder. There are good days and bad days.

"I'm not going to hide. If the coach believes that I should continue playing the Champions League games, I will try to capitalise on opportunities and make it difficult.

"You must remember eight months without playing is a long time.

"My idea is to stay here and my idea is to finish my career here."

Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque has previously confirmed that Casillas will remain in goal for his country as they aim to defend their FIFA World Cup title in Brazil next year.
