Bayern can get better, warns Boateng

Bayern Munich are determined to win the UEFA Champions league in even better style than they managed last term, according to Jerome Boateng.

The Bundesliga giants have made a fine start to the defence of their title and were in superb form on Wednesday as they eased past Manchester City 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Bayern were dominant for the majority of the match, with a late rally from City and a stunning Alvaro Negredo goal not enough to answer efforts from Franck Ribery, Thomas Muller and Arjen Robben.

And after opening their European campaign with a comfortable 3-0 triumph over CSKA Moscow and winning all but one of their domestic fixtures so far this term, Boateng - who was dismissed late in the win over City for a desperate lunge on Yaya Toure - has fired a warning that Bayern are looking to succeed in even better style under new manager Pep Guardiola.

"We had a great game today," the defender said. "We looked very strong.

"It is not easy to win here, 3-1 against a big club, so we can be happy.

"After last year of course it is difficult, but we want to do better. We have a new coach and he gave us a lot of confidence as you could see in the game.

"The coach has good tactics for us, we’re confident; everybody likes the ball and to play football."

Boateng was paired in defence against City with regular partner Dante, and the Brazilian echoed his team-mate's claims that the German champions are becoming more and more comfortable with Guardiola's system.

He said: "It was a very important win because we know Man City are a very strong team and to get a win here means we’re very close to qualifying and hopefully in first place.

"We’re adapting very well (under Guardiola), he's a great person, a great professional.

"He speaks good German after a short time, and we're all keen to continue evolving with his philosophy."
