Shawcross dissmisses Stoke scrap

2 October 2013 13:58

Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross has insisted there are no problems within the squad, and they are enjoying life under Mark Hughes.

Reports suggested Shawcross had angrily confronted Kenwyne Jones over comments made relating to former manager Tony Pulis, but the defender insists that was not the case.

Jones is enjoying regular football under Hughes – something that was not the case under the former manager– and was one of a number of Stoke players to criticise Pulis.

However, Shawcross revealed the team spirit has never been affected and they are all focused on getting back to winning ways after two consecutive defeats in the league.

"It's the old cliche of don't always read what's in the papers, it is not always truthful," Shawcross told Sky Sports News.

"I think that is what has happened here - nothing really went on to be honest and team spirit stays as it always has been, fantastic.

"There are no problems with anyone and we are just enjoying our football with the new manager."

Stoke had started well under Hughes and went four games unbeaten following their opening day loss at Liverpool.

The Welshman has brought a new style of play to the club and Shawcross is delighted at the way they have adapted.

"We have moved onto the new manager and everyone can see the style has changed," he added.

"Luckily the performances have come with it because, when you change your style like that it can be difficult to get results, but we seem to have hit the ground running."
