Livermore backs Huddlestone for England call

2 October 2013 11:13

Jake Livermore has backed Hull City team-mate Tom Huddlestone to earn an England recall after impressing since his move from Tottenham.

The 26-year-old has started five games for Steve Bruce's side in the Premier League and Hull have only tasted defeat once in those fixtures.

Huddlestone has achieved an 80 per cent pass success rate in those appearances from 281 attempts, and Livermore believes his form should be recognised by Roy Hodgson when he announces his England squad to face Montenegro and Poland in FIFA World Cup qualifying on Thursday.

"I don't think there's been too many English midfielders in better form than Tom so far this season, so if it was up to me I’d be pushing for Tom to be involved," the Spurs loanee said.

"Tom’s been fantastic. Saturday's performance was one of the best I've seen in the Premier League, to be honest.

"It was great to play alongside him, as it is every week. Especially against West Ham, his calmness on the ball, his range of passing and his work-rate were just fantastic.

"People see it as me doing his work for him, but he works just as hard. He's got fantastic quality on the ball and that decision-making in possession makes him the player he is."

England face Montenegro and Poland in their final World Cup qualifying matches later this month with qualification for Brazil 2014 on the line.

However, Livermore is not expecting a call from Hodgson himself despite his impressive form at the KC Stadium.

"I'm just enjoying my football here at the minute," he added. "This is my bread and butter, so I'm just looking forward to the next game.

"If I get a call-up then great, but if not I'll keeping working hard for this team and see where it takes me."
